Sorry, but one thing is bothering me. You say your game will be top-down, but these sprites use more of a platformer perspective. Judging from the mock-ups, this doesnt really fit, as the perspectives clash.
Also, the walking animations are pretty stiff because the characters don't really move their bodies. Try using a reference.
