C'mon guys, I use a female character as username (Ultimecia from Final Fantasy VIII and Dissidia) and got a few photos posted , I'm surprised that most people still miss that.

Anyway, there was a poll some time ago and women usually reject "pink technology" (pink mouse, pink notebook, etc), mainly because they are usually corny and/or very ugly. So it's easy to conclude that they don't even care about having some poll and asking what we really want from a design.
The image the game companies have about women don't help either, most of them think that the most hardcore stuff a girl can play is The Sims or Hello Kitty Online (yup, there IS Hello Kitty Online). My friends (the girls) and I enjoy playing RPGs (a lot), horror games, action games...Just like any male gamer. There's no secret, but I must admit that sometimes we tend to enjoy cute games and mascots, like Klonoa.

And of course, there are the casual girl gamers. I must say I know only one these days, and currently she's into playing Farm Ville on Facebook and she used to love playing the original Rayman game on the computer.

EDIT: On I site note, I know more guys into the color pink, Sailor Moon and Hello Kitty than girls, and yeah, not gay. Go figure.

Pink owns

also there was this girl my friends and I used to play a lot with over X-Box LIVE and she was nowhere near the girl gamer stereotype

it funny how they try to appease girl gamers while they do indeed enjoy the games that the "standard gamer" enjoys

I totally spent full nights playing MvC2 or Metal Slug with my ex. good thing she hated MMO's as much as me.

but you know, stereotypes are that, stereotypes. you're not suposed to think that all females that play games are like that, nor react surprised when someone on the net admits to be a girl either.

not like all fermales out there think that guys that play games and make sprites are fat nerds wearing galsses.

three of my friends are gamer girls (though ones more of a book worm) and I think they seem pretty stereotypical, they're pretty much like Ultimecia which is what I thought was more of an accurate stereotype for girl gamers.

Most of the girls I know play games, and they are anything but casual. Hell, my first kiss (and later, girlfriend) was barely won in a Dead or Alive match. I'm talking, like, one pixel's worth of health bar left. Thank god for Russian commandos.

Really, the only time they ever bought any girly-ish games was a load of massively cheap DS shovelware, because we needed suitable trebuchet ammunition to assault the nearby outdoors Halotard party with.

There was one time that my college was shotting a TV commercial about the game design degree. So they called all the girls from all the game design course to join the shotting with one random class. There were, like, 6 of us. 2 of them were ugly as hell. So they decided to invite some girls from the fashion degree. So, basically, the cake is a lie, so was the commercial.

I think that's mostly because the games are shown being for males, so most people knows only first person shooters and games with semi-naked female protagonist. Brawns no brains. No story, just pure muscles and testosterone. That's not always true but that's the image the general public gets.
We regular girl gamers got a wide variety of tastes. RPG fans, survival horror, action, I even knew another girl who enjoyed to play FPS like me. I even tried once or twice playing "girl games" and stopped in less than 1 minute, they are usually lame and boring.

Meh I live in a city were all the girls are either dumb-asses, whores, or big fat black girl that go "Mm-Hm!"

No gamer girls here. Hell even a fangirl would be a nice change.

Just sounds like my hometown. Good thing I moved to a big city.

There's one article about gaming girls here. I can't recall if I got it here or somewhere else. I also enjoy this article where the female writer is complaining about Havest Moon.

EDIT: More on the subject, by the same girl who wrote about Havest Moon. Most of those feminists are overdo it, but they do have good points.

That's basically the same type of city I live in. Most chicks here would rather get wasted than play video games.

I guess there's one neat thing about where I live. Practically everyone plays games, and even if they don't they don't make a big deal about others playing them. Hell, last year in my History class I overheard a couple girls talking about Pokemon Gold during class. Not even nerdy girls, just regular old chicks.

In seriousness, it actually bugs me a bit when they make a game 4 DA GURLLZ and they actually put a lot of effort into it, because it means I can't play/enjoy it to its full capacity.

That new Style Savvy/Style Boutique game is actually a nice Business Tycoon type game with the dress-up factor mixed in; but I feel like the most gigantic distinguished gentleman for playing and enjoying it. =|

agreeing, as I play the game as well. i'm a pretty manly dude and here I am playing a game (supposedly) for girls

I've actually made my girlfriend into a gamer however I feel like I don't feel like I've...made her into a really hardcore one - then again she isn't very competitive to begin with. She's not really big on fighting games; however she will play Smash Bros. or Naruto fighters from time to time (mainly because it's what I play and like on the Wii) but she doesn't really practice hard with them or try to become the best. I'm sure if she played on Wifi with either game she'd get more serious about it (and definitely has the potential to as well)

But I don't really feel like I should be forcing her into any gaming decisions by all means. She's THAT kind of gamer: I got her into gaming with Animal Crossing and she's into games like Phoenix Wright, Professor Layton and Mystery Case Files. She also likes the Another Code series - probably her favorite this far is Rhythm Heaven.
I started playing Style Savvy in front of her and she initially thought it was dumb at first - but then I got it for her and she just beat the hell out of it in like 3 days wtf

She's like hardcore and social gamer at the same time with the speed she beats games >:
