Sega Announces new 2D Sonic title
#31
Sorry folks but that site has nothing to do with the game

Via Gonintendo

Quote:Earlier today we were wondering if the stumbled-upon Needlemouse.com was actually involved with the SEGA project announced last night. Tonight, SEGA has confirmed that there is no connection whatsoever.

“That site is not connected to our Project Needlemouse.” - Kellie Parker of the Sega of America community blog

Now we go back to wondering just what this new Sonic project will end up looking like! Thanks to Crispy for the heads up!

So there.

This game has potential. Although knowing modern Sega they'll probably screw it up somehow by giving the game a boost button like all of the other recent Sonic games.

Nevertheless, I'm still hoping that it will be good. I wouldn't mind if this was a remake either as long as they know how not to change it.

I still don't see why this is a bad thing. Sonic not going fast is kind of a waste. Leave slow methodical platforming to Knuckles.

Nice! They finally brought Sonic back to the 2D roots of the 90's the way it should be.

I am in relief now knowing that needlemouse.com has nothing to do with it
because those models were pretty bad

I actually liked the boost gauge because it gave sonic that Lightning Speed feel...

However, I don't think it should be in. It just diesn't fit with the old style of the games.

But if they were to include it, they need to make Knuckles and Tails (ONLY!!) also playable.

Sonic would be the speed character that has the boost gauge and tricks that flies through levels. His route would be quick and curvy/loopy, right through the middle of the level where there is a medium amount of eneimes.

Knuckles would have the more "all-around" gameplay, more like the Genesis titles. He would still retain wall climb and glide, but would be slower than sonic. He would also retain his water moves and punches from Sonic Advance 1. His route would be slower, and more enemy-infested. He'd mostly take the lower routes of levels.

Tails, of course would fly. He'd have the highest jump of the three, but the slowest running speed. He'd retain his swimming move from Sonic 3. His route would mostly be the tops of levels where there aren't many enemies, and would be more focused on exploration.

The boost gauge is tolerable I suppose, but I honestly prefer how it worked in the old games with spindash. Maybe its just nostalgia blinding me, but it feels less cheap to me so I prefer it.

Vipershark I have to say I like your idea of how it could work with Tails and Knuckles.

I don't get why sonic barely rolls into a ball now. Wasn't that the main reason they made him a hedgehog (not that he looks like one anymore)

He's always been able to do that in the 2D games, but the spindash can't really be achieved traditionally in 3D, since pulling the control stick down would make you run towards the camera.

That said, all playable characters ('cept Amy) curl into balls when jumping, Sonic/Shadow curl up for the Lightspeed Dash, and again for Homing Attacks.

Actually, that's quite a lot of instances. You don't have much of a point...

...

it's about time

good job, sega

good job finally listening to the majority of your customers

*clap clap*

Seriously. It only took like what, 11 years to figure out that's what Sonic really needed? :/

[also I've heard the cellphone Sonic Unleashed was actually decent in this aspect - but I'm not so sure; because it was on cellphones and not an actual console

but it had werehog Sonic
in 2D levels and he looked very fitting!!]

You could Spin Dash in The Sonic Adventure titles. Though it was rarely used.

Which is why I then listed the methods where you *could* spindash, just not in the same way as in 2D games. It's called the Lightspeed Dash in Adventure 1 and 2.

No, in Sonic Adventure 1 it is used to gain power to do the light speed dash, but you can still use the spin dash and I belive is used a ton when speed runs of the game are done.
In Sonic Adventure 2 you could do spin dash for as long as you wanted as it didn't activate anything. (If I remember correctly)
