I'm going to be straightforward while saying this: COMPLEMENTS AND CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM ONLY. This means no calling me an idiot or ANYTHING of that sort. Someone before called me an idiot and then told me I couldn't handle constructive criticism when I got pissed at him. I don't want any of that, I'm asking very nicely, so please just respect me and I promise I will respect you. It's perfectly fine if you don't like these sprites, but don't say "I HATE THEM YOU SUCK!!!" Or anything like that. If people like these, I will consider taking it to the submission section and will add one of those credit things. If you give me sensible ideas for improvement, I may improve upon this.

Also, this is supposed to be 8-bit.

I would definatly work on the design of him some more. Maybe use other sprites as examples. He currently looks very square and chunky.

Start with that, then we can get into discussing some other fixes that need doing.

I HATE THEM YOU SUCK

I don't like the lack of shading, the very square, blocky lineart lacking curves, the very basic clunky animation which doesn't look natural, or how the hat looks like it is behind the head on the side-on sprites.

Start by making the lineart much less chunky and more natural looking.

And how would I do that?

It's very small and plain. The animations are basically the same sprite copied over and over again with almost no changes, and there is no shading whatsoever on the whole sheet. I do like the concept though, you just need to add some depth to the sprites and their animations.

Thanks. I was planning on giving them more depth and making the animations better. You're right, his hand isn't moving. I'll probably make a better version of this, but I'd have to recolor every single sprite, so it might take a while...

Just so you know, this version is 8-bit, so there isn't supposed to be shading.

On your next sheet you might want to just make a base sprite. Than get all the constructive criticism you can get on it, and continue making poses and getting crits as your making the rest of sheet.

8-Bit is not an excuse to exclude shading.

My bad too. I thought he was saying completely custom style. But if its eight bit, you have a limit to 4 colors. And with that, there is no black outline and or shading.

By far it looks too plain to be in 8-bit. it's even using MS Paint default colors, and that's a no. and when the sword is "swung", it's too blurry, and it horribly stands out with the rest of the "8-bit sprites".

And the sprites are just the same frames over and over, as CeeY stated. it doesn't look very 8-bit to me at all. Too plain, sword's too blurry, and an awful misconception of the term 8-bit. I'd also advise you to look at custom sprites made by various spriters who have been spriting longer, it looks like you just started spriting.

It's true, I'm a beginner. I don't know of any forums for beginning spriters, so I just have to post here. The sword is blurry because when I rotated it it got like that. I don't know how to prevent that from happening. Don't worry, I'm going to recolor it when I have the time. I submitted it way too early. I just wanted to get peoples thoughts.

He still looks rather blocky, and if you're going for 8-bit, you can only use THREE COLORS not counting transparency.

Otherwise it's not 8-bit.

drawing it by hand for example.

also, I think it has been clear that this is nowhere near to be 8bit, even if you want to say it for the NES, it doesnt have the size nor the colors for.

now back on the sprite, the lineart its quite wonky, doesnt really show much anatomy nor planing, i do suggest that you study the original Link Sprites from the legend of Zelda so you can compare them and see by yourself wich ones are your faults.
