Pokemon overworld tiles

So this game (Pokemon Uranium) needs new tiles, because the defaults are hideous, and I'm slowly doing that. Problem is, my tiles suck.

(sorry, messy workspace; to the left is a screenshot from the game, above are some already finished sand tiles I did, and below are the city tiles I'm currently working on.) I'm thinking of maybe not making the sidewalk squares weird like that and instead like ending it at the end of the tile, so I don't have this awkward half-tile that you can see in the mockup. Also, pallette suggestions could help. Um. Yeah.
