It actually is a good idea. People will think "Oh well these songs are already on Rock Band, so why get Guitar Hero?".

Everyone thinks rock band is great because they offer so much dlc at that price but noone realises that that price = 36 songs for 60$, whereas you can just buy a guitar hero and get 80 songs |:

It's a very good marketing strategy for Harmonix because Guitar Hero is their main competitor. They need to try and take away as much thunder from Guitar Hero as possible.

And also the Rock Band controllers work much better than the Guitar Hero ones. Every Guitar Hero controller I've played on nowadays has at least one button that doesn't work right due to the detachable neck. The only reason I would want to play on a Guitar Hero guitar is if I wanted a click (which does help, but if I'm missing a bunch of notes due to some stupid design flaw I don't even want to bother).

The world tour one is faulty, everyone knows that (and since its the same one, the metallica one). But the GH3 one is one of the best guitars (Gh2 one also)

And the common pool of people who are going to choose between Guitar Hero and Rock band dont go through the songlist, they choose which is more appealing (which is, in the most case, guitar hero)

It's funny you should say that because I've never played using the World Tour guitar. And yes the GH1/GH2 guitar is the best one so far.

Appealing in what way? You can't be talking about visuals? Bleh :/

In comparison with Rock Band and Guitar Hero;

RB beats GH in songs by a mile.

In controller feel and gameplay? That one will have to go to Guitar Hero.
First off, The Rock Band run way is yuck to read compared to Guitar Hero.
The Guitar Hero guitar wins by far. RB guitar the frets are all jammed up close together and there's no click sound on the strum bar (which doesn't give you a sense of secureness [not a word.].)
Unleashing "star power" whenever you want. You have to wait until the end of a drum fill to unleash that gold thingy in RB.

And when talking about the Drums, it's really what you're used to. You can't really have much say in that.

Though you could argue that the 36 songs would still be songs you specifically wanted to download while buying an entire game may net you around a dozen or so you really wanted and a bunch you really didn't care for.

Rockband is tabbed out better and has better songs but Guitar Hero controls better kinda.

But the focus in Guitar Hero is still guitar. It's just guitar and a lil extra. Rock Band was meant for multiple instruments, and they didn't build around the guitar, they started from the ground up.

I don't understand how either of them is yuck. You should be focusing on the notes themselves, which are more visually appealing and make more sense in Rock Band(the rectangles work better with the drums, especially).

I agree with you on the clicks and the way the frets are, but I swear every GH guitar after GH2 has had way too many problems (unresponsive frets, overstrums).

Star power in GH is confusing. It often causes you to break your streak while trying to save yourself which could then cause more confusion to try and get back on track. I've seen it happen multiple times on the faster songs. Rock Band gives you a short amount of time to freestyle (and in some cases, take a short break [Ramblin' Man, ouch!]) and then just hit the green. And they happen quite frequently once you get the star power meter up. It really is just a matter of preference, though.

The drums in GH are weird in my opinion. I think they should've made the cymbol notes onscreen look different then the pad notes. Maybe smaller or triangular idk.

Anyway, that's what I've got to say. There are some things I like better on Guitar Hero, such as the time window (GH2's was perfect), and, as previously stated, the design of the guitar controller. But, that's pretty much it. :P

Everything on the runway is what I meant. Notes included. Idk it's probably just me; it's probably just because I'm too used to Guitar Hero.

I find the guitar hero notes for guitar, and especially the HOPO's easier to read (the middle is glowing), rather than the rockband ones. However, the rock band rectangular notes do work alot better with the drums, as you have said.

GH5 has a very nice increase in the quality of visuals (re: complete overhaul of current graphics and engine), and the fact that it can support a band of any 4 instruments (any combination) will mean that it will again sell outsell Rock Band.

Looking back, i'm glad Activision bought neversoft and made the split between HMX's guitar hero's and neversoft's, as now they are competition and competition always brings out the best in people (in this case video games) :>

EDIT:
Clutch - I'd rather have alot of new songs to try(most i've never heard before), and more than double the amount, then songs i've heard before and that are going to get boring reasonably fast(Rise against dlc on world tour did this for me >:

I'm thinking it will outsell Rock Band just because of name recognition, but that's far from the point.

And I'm hoping for a new sequel for Rock Band so they can add more features like the instrument combo thing.

Just so you know, I used to like both games just fine. Guitar Hero 3 kind of made me go "WTF" because of the difficulty, but I still had nothing against the game at that point. It was when World Tour added that stupid new mechanic (the one where you hold down sustained notes and hit other single notes at the same time), along with all those unnecessary features, that I concluded it was just getting too gimmicky. Plus the screen was too cluttered in my opinion. :I

And back to Rock Band...

No one seems to have commented on the Rock Band Network press release I posted. Sounds groundbreaking. The indie label Sub Pop already wants to release their entire catalog on RBN. My favorite band's, The Thermals, first three (of four) albums were released on Sub Pop. :D
