Digimon World Championship
#1
Okay so, I've spent the last day or so grappling with digimon world championship in an effort to rip a nice set of sprites from the game. I personally find the sprites excellent, and would like to rip as many as possible, and due to the nature of the game the screenshot and cut method is simple far too time consuming to consider. My attempts to rip the sprites directly from the game have yielded some okay results. From Tahaxan I've deduced that there are 8 files per digimon:

mXXX_digimonname_main.nanr
mXXX_digimonname_main.ncbr
mXXX_digimonname_main.ncer
mXXX_digimonname_main.nclr
mXXX_digimonname_sub.nanr
mXXX_digimonname_sub.ncgr
mXXX_digimonname_sub.ncer
mXXX_digimonname_sub.nclr

First I investigated
mXXX_digimonname_sub.ncgr
and
mXXX_digimonname_sub.nclr
as after a little bit of research it was clear that it was just a sprite and a palette.
And here was the result in TiledGGVery Sad
[Image: bwgm.png]

That is tiled and 8 bits per pixel, and it looks pretty complete, just some simple re-arranging and there's a set of complete sprites. However, there are only 6 or 7 sprites there, not nearly close to the number in the full game. Next I investigated
mXXX_digimonname_main.ncbr
and
mXXX_digimonname_main.nclr
Hopefully yielding another clean set of sprites, however, in tileGGD the only tangable result was at 4bits per pixel linear and even then the result was distorted and incredibly low-res, nothing like the ingame sprites:

I've yet to investigated ncer and nanr, I understand nanr is an animation file but no idea what ncer is.

I'm currently out of ideas of what to do next Any help anyone can lend me would be greatly appreciated, and I'll be more than happy to upload a set of files if anyone doesn't have access to the game.

Thanks.

That last image is wrong because it's double the width it should be set to.
Make it half that size width-wise and you should have a decent result.

Wow of course! it worked perfectly thanks alot! Okay, so I've established now that mXXX_digimonname_main.ncbr contains all the information of each digimon, and the for the most part they're ripe for the ripping. However, there's usualy several frames that have parts below it that require a different width, most sprites use a width of 32, however, if there's part of a tail or wing that sticks out beyond that which requires a width of 16 or 8 depending on whether it sticks out 1 or 2 tiles. Is there a program that allows me to change the 'width 'of each set of 'tiles' independently, then manipulate them into place without the use of multiple files and such, or do I have to manually by doing each sprite in widths of 8, 16, and 32 and then splicing together the relevant parts?

Here's an example of what I mean:

For most it's not a big deal, however some have huge sections all scramled up in different widths which would take forever to paste together in photoshop by hand.

I'd suggest doing what I do, which sucks a lot, but it's the best you can do;

Use TiledGGD's function of saving all the graphics at the 32 width, and one at the 16 width

Paste them both into a paint document

Go through them in that document forming the sprites and arranging them as you go. Delete all the wrong sized crap.
It's the only way I've learnt so far.

There's one or two sprites on each sheet that look like they have incorrect palettes?

Are you sure they don't have an alt. palette in the palette file?

Well, I actually own this game and I think it is great someone is finally ripping the sprites, they sprites are in great quality besides the few that seem to be miscolored, but like one of you said before I do this they are special attack sprites, I haven't play the game in monthes though, so I am not sure, anyways if you need help labeling the sprites on idle stances and all that fun stuff you can ask me and I will be glad to help, seeing as I myself do not know where to get a ripping program.

Sorry for Double Posting but, Also if you don't mind with any future sprites, Label the sprites by the action that they seem to be doing, like, for osme of these sprites, i can't tell if they are Idle or not, so it is kind of hard to do this project I am working on.
