MissingNo.? Should I?
#1
I'm after dusting off my blue version and GBA, I've been thinking of catching Missingno. Anyone think I should or shouldn't, cuz I watched in horror as my cousin attempted and have his whole game file wiped. I think I should take the chance, but does anyone know if he messes up the boxes, or is that 'M?

I'm pretty sure it's just 'M that screws everything up that badly. Missingno will still mess with your game a bit, but I've never had Missingno wipe my save or anything.

One alternative would be to use an emulator. That way, you can have as many saves as you want and don't have to worry about starting overBig Grin.

iirc M' is the only harmful one. Missingno does still mess around with your HoF data, but shouldn't do much else.

This is a really good place to go for missingno information.
http://trsrockin.com/tales.html

basically every pokemon search is still incomglitch is covered, with a comprehensive missingno section which after YEARS of reasearch is still incomplete.
They're going for every possible variable to get as much data as they can.

also what was your trainer's name?

why worry about data on a game you dont even play anymore? you can easily get all that shit back if you restart, pokemon didnt get so precious in game saves until gsc.

And you see how precious the GSC saves get in recent years.Actually, I play my Blue on road trips, and it took me half a day to get to Celadon....

I always thought 'M' and Missingno were the same thing. Never seen the Missingno that looks like the ghost pokemon before you get the goggles.
In fact, it is the same and the "ghost" looking one isn't in at all - appears to be a difference with the European release by the looks of it.

Edit: Oh wait, read through it all - seems the name does it.

Man this is some interesting stuff!

no
all of the missingno versions are triggered by your name

that's why some people get regular missingno while some get the ghost and others get the kabutops skeleton or aerodactyl skeleton

basically what happens is that since their sprites aren't part of the 151 but are still in the battle sprite "area" of game data, the game loads them when it goes outside of the 151 range to load missingno

Everytime I caught Missinggo I would just catch it a level 150, raise it a single level, then get a Kangashkan that would know Sky attack.

It was fun to use in pokemon stadium.

EDIT: Well, I cant say I remember the exact process (I think the one above me is correct), but Missingo was the one way I got Kangashkan.
