Bunny Must Die .dat files.
#1
Hello, I post this thread in the hopes that someone might know something about this topic which has plagued me for ages now. In the attached images, I've included a comparison of the files between the PSVita and Nintendo Switch versions of the game. The PSVita version has unobfuscated files, which is great for ripping, but unfortunately seeing as it's an older handheld system, the sprites are all very low quality. The Switch version however has very high quality sprites, but unfortunately as you can see all the files are compressed into DAT files, and renaming them into a zip has no effect like with some other games. So my question to the people seeing this thread, are there any other games that do anything like this that people are familiar with? Does anyone have a clue as to how to open these DAT files?

While I don't have an answer for the Switch version at the moment since it uses a currently unknown key, I did a quick check for the Steam PC version, and it seems to use a DXLib archive with a simple XOR obfuscation.

Here's a QuickBMS script that I wrote up to decrypt those: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Random...ie_XOR.bms

Afterwards, you can simply use aluigi's "Heart Of Crown" QuickBMS script from here to extract the archives' contents: http://aluigi.altervista.org/quickbms.htm

That worked amazingly! Thank you so much for your help, I will submit these to the game's page promptly! I'm a little new to this though, so I want to ask, should there be a separate page for the Vita version? Or should it just be another category on the PC version's page?

Hm... Normally I'd say that you should make a separate page, but considering most of the differences are with UI elements and not the sprites themselves (barring a few exceptions), putting them in the PC entry with the respective version listed on the submissions themselves should be alright.

Either way, I didn't end up figuring out the encryption key for the Switch version's archive, but I did the next best thing -- I played through the entire game myself and dumped all of the images along the way, and matched them with the Vita version's filenames. Feel free to use / submit these as you wish, no credit necessary. Smile

Holy cow, this is REALLY amazing! I can already tell a big difference from the vita version, most if not all of these assets are at least double the resolution! I'll definitely submit these, but are you sure you don't want credit? I'd gladly include your name in the submitters! But additionally, do you think I should replace the vita sheets with these, or keep them both for the sake of having them?
