Is ripping Sprites possible from this visual novel? (Piece of Wonder-2002)
#1
I've been trying to rip the files from this visual novel for a few days now and have had little success in getting much done. While I have been able to use extractdata to rip the sound files, sound effects, and voice acting lines, I haven't been able to even really see where the sprites could be accessed

Heres the folder for it.

The primary files in the folder are saved in ".d files" with just a .exe and nothing much more. The game is a hybrid tactical-rpg visual novel which might make it more complex, I'm not really certain what engine it is running on.

I'd appreciate any tips anyone might have for ripping this and if anyone else has any ideas/info on the semantics of its engine!

GARbro is a pretty good Visual Novel extractor, though admittedly I haven't tried it against those, well, rather spurious D files. If it doesn't work, I recommend looking up ExtractData* which may be part of the Otaku's Toolbox.

* But be wary - quality is extremely poor when extracting with this secondary suggestion, as it typically makes images .bmp and thus removes transparency.

I don't know if I'm using it incorrectly or not if it just doesn't work but when using GARbro all I get is a cannot open file message "File cannot be used as a resource archive" error when attempting to open one of the .D files in it. Again I'm not very familiar with the tool so I don't know if I'm doing something wrong tho.

I was able to use ExtractData to rip the sound files for the game but strangely enough I was unable to find anything outside of sound files when ripping with ExtractData, specifically .oggs and .wavs. Strangely I was still able to rip the .ds of sound files even though ExtractData said it they were not a supported file format.

Yeah, ExtractData can be really awkward - it might not support some file formats but it's very much a case by case basis since it ends up doing so for a few. .oggs and .wavs are normal like .bmp.

As for GARbro admittedly I haven't used it in a few moons, but I think if you try to play around with it you can get the resource archive wall bypassed, but again it's a case by case.
