[Resolved] Converting Unity .asset files to .png (Mac)
#1
Shocked
I was soooooo excited to find AssetRipper this morning. FINALLY there was a way to rip sprites from Unity games on my Mac without having to figure out Wine or other emulator-types.

I got it in order to export sprites from ValiDate, which is a pretty straightforward visual novel, so all the assets I want from there are .pngs/2D image files. I managed to use the program to get a beautiful directory of .asset files, which is halfway there, but I'd like to get those files saved as .pngs so I can make AMVs/upload them here for everyone's use.

Nominally, the program should have just exported the files as .pngs, as you can see on the Image Export Format dropdown. However, messages on AssetRipper's Discord from two years ago seem to indicate that the program can only rip .png files on Windows machines (possibly Linux as well). I completely understand Mac development being difficult and would like to find another solution. Digging around in Unity Editor has not proven useful for converting these files.

Does anyone know of a Mac-supported program that can convert these .asset files to png files? Has AssetRipper added .png export functionality to Mac that I haven't discovered? Alternatively, are there any other Mac-based one-step Unity sprite ripping programs? Thanks!

Okay this was actually pretty simple haha, I just needed to change Sprite Export Format from Yaml to Texture. PNGs exported perfectly after that. Leaving this up in case anyone else is looking for a good Mac-compatible sprite ripper! I'll write up a little something for the wiki too once I'm finished.
