Livestreams on Front Page
#1
Hey guys,

I just wanted to get some feedback from you regarding the livestreams we post up on the front page of tSR. Our original intention was to make it a regularly scheduled stream, however lately we've come to terms with the limited time that we have to create content. As a result, we're trying to come up with a more solid solution with streams that will work for everyone.

We've currently settled on "specials" and streaming whenever a new Region Locked episode goes live.

So when we stream, we usually post the stream to the front page of all of the sites. However, I'm not sure we should continue with the direction the streams have gone in. What do you guys think? Should we just include the small stamp on the bottom corner to let you know we're live so that you can check it out if you really want to?
Tsunami Bomb - The Simple Truth
We could run away
Leave behind anything paper
Not knowing where we're going to stay
When there's no Mondays

You're part of me, it's so easy to see the simple truth
When I'm in your arms, I feel safe from harm and sorrow too
You're part of me, it's so easy to see the simple truth
But most of all, nothing couldn't be solved when I'm with you

I think the video is fine, but the autoplay is a bit annoying sometimes, but I don't know if you can fix that.

Agree with Ton. I enjoy having the streams show up on the main resource pages since it serves as a good reminder, but the autoplay can be troublesome, especially in my case where my internet is very not good at all and having the main pages of tSR and tSoR open at the same time, as an example, can quickly begin destroying my bandwidth without me even thinking about it. If there's any way to make it still show up but push to play instead that'd be radular.

I have always agreed on the subject of non-autoplaying video but there doesn't seem to be a consistent solution to it with Twitch. I just tried adding a parameter to the embed code that may or may not work - I guess we'll see on the next stream.

Whatever you did seems to have worked! It's a beautiful thing.

oh!! finally, a golden opportunity to make a Good Suggestion HeartuHeart I mean, the way it's done currently is NICE but it might feel a little invasive for some (though it seems you've fixed the issues with the autoplay, Petie. nice Cool)

You've got the vg-resource.com domain, and you're doing all your video streaming under the VG Resource banner; the VG Resource itself, however, is an internet forum.  why not, y'know - utilize it to its fullest potential, and use the .com domain as a centralized hub for our media outreach, sorta like DYKG does it (by means of a Tumblr page) If you want us (the userbase) to chip in on the design, I'm sure we'd be more than happy to - PLUS, that gives VGR some "modernized" exposure (in that you've got it as a truly subscribable media - whether you're opting for dash updates or via RSS using an app like Feedly or Flipboard.

Also, maybe have the toaster for the stream pop up on the sites with an image and text, and MAYBE??? the title of the stream? i.e. "We're live! Tune in and watch ~~~"

tl;dr use the vg-resource.com domain for something cool besides a forum and just move us to like "community.vg-resource.com" or something

we won't mind. but if it royally screws the complicated spaghetti that's VGR's database management then i suppose it's understandable to not want to move it.

also, if it's not...a royal pain in the ass to do, would it be possible to add a notification somewhere within the forums too that VG-Resource is live on Twitch? A little notification like a PM or a timed announcement would be the bee's knees, but if you could recycle the same toaster notification as on the sites I guess that'd be kinda cool too honestly

We tried that once - The VG Resource started out as basically a Wordpress site (I don't remember if it was actually Wordpress but it was that style) which was running gaming-related articles and the like. It didn't work and we decided to use the domain as a central location for the community and to tie together the other sites.

But But But

that was a wordpress site and it might've been really boring at the time (as it was JUST gaming-related articles) but a few years have passed, and with streaming content being the new VG-Resource content, you might have a potential to finally strike gold here my dude. u_u

actually, I kinda wonder in a post-WaterGame world of gaming journalism, if more neutral-stance gaming articles would be welcomed by the gaming community, that isn't backed by a giant corporate conglomerate

y'know, like an al-Jazeera but for videogames. i mean, heck, send me out as street-team for gaming conventions i'd do it and i'll fill the whole dang cyberspace
