Final Fantasy III (PSP) unknown files
#1
Hello everyone!

I was searching a method to decrypt the font files from the PSP version of FF3. The problem is, I tried using GLIntercept with the PPSSPP emulator, but that only shows the letters used at the moment you play the game (for example, if you see the command "Attack", using GLIntercept only decrypts the letters A, t, a, c, and k and nothing more).

I searched then with the UMD Gen in the rom files, and I found a few folders that contains 2D data from the different languages of the version. Inside every folder, there is one called "Font" and inside, the font files used for that language. The files contains a .pgf format, but I don't know how to extract or decrypt them.

Also, I found 2D files with .rssa format, but I the same as bellow. I don't know how to decrypt them. I tried even with the Ravioli Game Tools.

I uploaded some of the files here:
FF3 PSP Font files PGF
FF3 PSP 2D files RSSA

Thanks in advance for the help!

Looked around and found some info on the PGF format here and here. While it's useful info it seems a bit too incomplete to reliably make an extractor for it. In addition, it has some font-related things that I'm unfamiliar with. As for the RSSA files, I can't find anything on them and can't make anything out myself.

I suppose we can't decrypt the PGF files into PNG or another image format, right? I was looking for a solution weeks ago, without results.

About the RSSA files, maybe I can upload all the files I found into the Final Fantasy III rom for PSP, maybe there's something that can be useful in order to search something about the images format. Could be possible?

PGF is almost certainly convertible to PNG (it is a bitmap font after all) but this isn't enough information, and I honestly don't have the time to figure it out myself.

I have no idea what to do with the RSSA files, I don't know if they contain any graphics information at all to be honest.

These are all the files I extracted from the rom:
Final Fantasy III PSP Data

All the RSSA files are the USRDIR/FILES/2D folder, and the USRDIR/FILES_x contain 2D folders and RSSA files too (x is the language letter for those folders, which contain fonts, and data for every region).

About the other files and folders, I hope you can find something useful to decrypt the RSSA ones. As I know, the 2D files correspond to menus, face graphics, icons, maps, gallery images, battle interface and cutscene resources.

Bump again.

I've found something interesting using the TileGGD tool with the file "title_gousei_new.rssa". There is an image inside the .rssa files, no doubt about it:

That is the Final Fantasy III title image, but I don't know how to extract it or the palette colours. It must be a way to extract all the images from the .rssa files.
