Seiken Densetsu 3: Riesz
#1
Hello, there!
Over the past couple of weeks, I've been playing through Seiken Densetsu 3 for one purpose: compile a sheet of Riesz. (I guess two purposes. It's a fun game I felt like replaying.) Hoo boy, I was not expecting it to be this involved, but I've made really good progress. Here's what I have so far:

I'm hoping to find the "Wave" and "Head Shake" poses by the endgame, but nothing yet, unfortunately... The layout of the sheet to the left of the orange line is what I'm planning to have it, with the Chibikko (mini) sprites probably going in the blank area above the instruments/Sword of Mana sprites. I'll also probably move her portrait/profile to the bottom of the sheet.
But the main reason for this thread is for a bit of advice I need.
-Is the spacing for the sprites okay?
-Is the background color fine? It doesn't interfere with some of her other class colors?
-Are the palette squares for the different classes a reasonable size?
-Should I keep the special attacks as they are? i.e., leave her in the colors of the class that uses it?
-In that same vein, should I include the Fenrir Knight special attack? All she does is perform a string of her basic attacks against an enemy (https://youtu.be/0Rb91C232Sg?t=319) and it seems like a waste of space to include all those for the 3 directions she can face.
-Should I include her summons as well? I know there are a couple of sheets already here that have them, but should/can they be put here for completion's sake? (Freya's currently on there)

Sorry for the big wall of text, and thanks in advance for any advice you give!

Deleted the old font and changed it to Verdana 7:

Now it has like 48 colours less. I was surprised that the sheet had 298 colours. Anyway, the background colour is fine, couldn't find anything that blends in with the sprites.

For saves:

With them, it's way easier to rip certain sprites.

- Spacing is ok.
- Palette squares are ok
- I would give her sprites only one palette and add the classes with palette squares and one sprite per class as example
- Fenrir Knight special attack has no unique sprites, right? Maybe you can add the sfx, but I wouldn't add duplicate sprites of Riesz / Lise.
- Sure you can add the summons.

Everything Davy said - sheet is looking pretty damn good so far though!

By the way, if you want to separate a sprite or special effects from another sprite, you can make a quicksave in zsnes and open this save with vSNES 2.91. After that, the scene viewer (mowgli symbol) in the upper taskbar will be your friend. There you can easily uncheck certain sprites like the Dragon Master SFX to make the Riesz sprite below visible.

Of course, emulators are not able to do that. They have all sprites on one layer (objects, characters, SFX, etc.) and that's it.

Are the summons unique to her? Do they have a lot of frames? You could always put them on their own sheet.

Thanks for the advice, Davy! I'll play around with those saves, and see if I can't track down what I'm looking for. I'll also recolor the special attack poses that aren't unique and remove the ones that aren't, like the casting or air-rolling. I was also planning on using in-game text for labeling later on. The green text was more of a placeholder for my own benefit. Tongue

I completed my run of the game last night, and from what I saw, only one boss used one of the summons she uses. (Riesz has a different summon for each third-tier class.) With the exception of one summon, which is 2 frames, all of them are only one. But they do already exist on two different sheets:

I'm concerned about the redundancy of having them on this one, even though they are largely unique to her.
