rev up the sonic cycle: Sonic Mania
#16
Honestly, I may just get this one.

I'm actually glad that they're doing some throwback to the original game graphics and now try to do what Sonic 4 did, which was a disaster on a couple of levels.

and if Whitehead wants to add her, he should also look to the guys working on the Sonic Worlds Engine. They got Amy down to...Well, an A.

Since this has a PC release as well. I wonder who's got first dibs on ripping it. (Most likely either RTB or Techokami)

It's a bit weird how the Project 2017 game is confirmed for Nintendo's NX system, but not this game.
Who knows whatever the 3D game is about considering they confirmed it's not Generations 2, despite Classic Sonic showing up.
Something tells me it involves Eggman finally winning and Sonic has to form a resistance of some kind to fix everything.
Before you get your hopes up. It seems highly unlikely we'll see Archie Sonic or Boom Sonic in it as well.
Especially due to how unknown the non-game characters are in Japan and other places.

The Lego Sonic is quite a surprise, and I hope there's sets coming in the future. But man, Roger Craig Smith better have some new dialog in it. That if he'll talk, that is. Because the stock audio is one of the major nitpicks with many of the characters in Lego Dimensions.
With Ghostbusters, it's understandable due to Harold Ramis passing away. But The Simpsons characters having no new lines didn't make sense.

one thing i wish they'd do is bring back good ol' "SegaSonic" to appeal to the Japanese fans. basically i'm talking about the design from 1993-1997-ish design with the super pointy spikes and shoe buckles. he looked like that in quite a few promotional things broadcasted in japan during that era of Sonic CD, etc.

I definitely find SegaSonic more appealing than...well, hotdog lips.
And both the US and JP designs are far better than...aw jeez...

but i do like that they made a few good touchups to the new Classic Sonic design. They lengthened his spines and made his head a bit fuller.

It's because Sonic Mania is being developed by a different company and Nintendo is purposely leaving a lot of developers in the dark on NX. I guess Sonic Team was let in on the secret.

I'm really only worried about project 2017 at this point. Ireally don't want them to mess it up. The intro looks so great and the potential for a good story is there. Unfortunately from what I've gathered, I'm pretty sure the boost formula is definitely going to come back, which unfortunately means more hallways unless they get creative. I hope it's not more hallways. The lost world engine would have worked perfectly in a full flat stage design like sonic 06 instead of.... Well... Tubes.

The console games usually flourish more than the handheld counterparts (Colors, Generations, and Lost World prove that) so I'm sure they should be fine with the 2017 console game.

I do agree that the Modern Sonic racecar segments are aged a bit. Sure they're pretty solid in design, but it's time for something new. I'm partially thankful for Lost World because they took the opportunity to try something different (even if Nintendo heavily inspired them to do it).

Sonic Boom had a lot problems as well, besides being a glitchy mess because CryEngine was not built for either Sonic or even the Wii U.
Beat'em Up gameplay in a Sonic game would be better for characters like Knuckles, Big, and the Chaotix.

I didn't mind the Werehog parts in unleashed, due being a big Beat'em Up player. And just thought of it as Altered Beast: Sonic Edition. Tongue
Really, the Werehog in general made me think it was paying homage to Altered Beast with Ristar thrown in for good measure.
Besides the blatant similarities with Super Mario Galaxy. Lost World did share some things with the cancelled Sonic Xtreme.
Although the developers said it was only a coincidence, there had to be some intention.

There are no similarities between Lost World and X-Treme, other than there's curved stuff on the screen.
The tubes in Lost World were actual tubes, while X-Treme had a fish-eye lens effect. It was purely a visual gimmick, as in "Look what the SEGA Saturn can do! Feeling sick yet?"

I'm not worried about Project 2017 as much as I feel meh about it. I'm super hyped for Sonic Mania. The fact that it's coming makes me not care about Project 2017, at least not much. I'm curious about what's going to be there, I'm interested in the updates, but if for some reason the game fades from existence, I still have Sonic Mania.

Maybe Project 2017 will turn out interesting, but I severely doubt it'll ever beat Sonic Mania for me.

All we saw was like 30 seconds worth of CGI. Sonic Generations started out the same way but ended up doing really well. even IGN gave it 8/10 iirc.

(IGN ratings mean nothing to me)

The game is good. I liked Generations just as much as Colors, though in case of Generations, I care more about the trivia and music than the game itself. Project 2017 looks like another game that's fun to play through once and then just listening to its soundtrack for forever, while Sonic Mania is a game I'll play though more than once, like I do Sonic 3 & Knuckles, while listening to its soundtrack for forever. (I fucking love Studiopolis Zone's theme)

One thing that gets my concern about this, for the pc port, is how well it will work upon release with most processors. Anyone notice the growing trend of, for example, games not liking Intel processors and crashing a lot? I'd hate to see something like this crash and burn because of technical difficulties like that.

direct X too...like why can't people use something simpler like OpenGL?? I'm not a hardware expert but there should be like a universal processor that can run any kind of graphics interface.

I know literally nothing about computer hardware or software on a technical level, but based on the complexity of computers alone I feel like that is something that is... not possible? I mean, there's a point where you actually can't run older games on newer hardware because of compatibility issues already, I feel like the only way to ensure every computer runs every game is that ever thing HAS to use the exact same internal hardware, which is not a possibility unless they only make the exact same computer.

I don't know what I'm talking about, though. Computers are complicated.
