Are sprite comics dead?
#16
Do a "sonic sprites" search on deviantART under "newest," and you will not(?) be disappointed.

For real though, spriting is still just as popular among todays kids and teens as it was among our generations back then. Not gonna lie, ever since Freedom Planet sprites were ripped and uploaded to TSR, there's been a boom of FP/Sonic crossover sprite comics on the internet.

I'm more disappointed how there's a plague of shitty Sonic Advance edits and recolours when I search that on there. Trust me, it sucks.
This is one of the reasons I hate the style so much. The other reason is that they look crappy compared to Sega Genesis sprites.

The only sprite comics I remember reading were That's My Sonic and InSonicnia. The former is dead due to the controversy regarding Psyguy.
And the latter never got continiued due to the Mystical Forest Zone falling apart, all because of the idiot new owner.
Supposedly, MFZ is getting resurrected, as the link to the site has a note saying "The Forest will bloom again".
No one's sure whoever's doing this is any of the original team.

I shoulda marked my joke with /sarcasm xP!

I've always found myself more partial to the Advance style. I just prefer the more vibrant graphics, whereas I view the Genesis graphics as rather bland *shrug*.

I did read a good portion of MFZ's Tails comic - I thought it was pretty funny at times but some parts of it I would probably see as cheesy nowadays Tongue. I also took a look at 8-bit Theater, which I believe is still going but in a typical webcomic style.

No it's not. That's just something they did for the finale. It's been concluded for years now. The original author is doing Atomic Robo now.

I think the FAQ section pretty much sums up their feelings on this topic.

Does anyone remember the comics that were on Sonic style while we're on the topic? What were your opinions on that. I still dig em up from the net archives now and then because I loved em so much.

Could you be more specific? There were a LOT of Sonic styled comics. Some way worse than others.

I loved Guns & More from Thebestsiteever.tk, that was my favorite comic, the one I thought the funniest and at one point quite popular. It didn't have Sonic characters, it was mostly megaman edits and Kirby. But the humor was unpredictable and funny , and it wasn't photoshopped to death. We were of the opinion that sonic characters were overused and so we tried not to use them as much.

I also enjoyed ROSC comics. The sites are now gone for anything else I might have remembered.

Nono, Axis is referring to the website CALLED "Sonic Style"

...which I also have no idea what exactly the URL was either, lol but yeah, Sonic the Hedgehog sprite comics were like a dime a dozen :/

In researching this, I've actually found a lot of comics still being made, notably on deviantart, SmackJeeves and the mgcomics.com forum , theres a ton still being put out. and I would say they are nowhere near dead as i thought they were. but more of a niche thing. also, I wasn't really looking hard before .

This is the site i was talking about. It isn't super funny but it was much better than the other sonic sprite comics out there at the time imo.

Neo used to be a member here, too.

I mean , technically I still am. But that's just nitpicking on my part.

Man I remember when Bob and erm... whatever the hell that first Megaman sprite comic was called, was like THE bomb. Hell even I made a sprite comic. Can't even remember what it was called. I believe Samus and Zelda had a secret romance in it though. And yes I was really fucking cool and slapped loads of sprites from different games together for eye bleeding goodness.

Honestly, funny youtube sprite videos as made by Dorkly etc probably killed them. But they were dying already, they were too easy to make and thus normally garbage.

Don't know how easy it is to find now days (think the original site went down) but Kid Radd was basically the best sprite comic ever made (was actually about sprites) and after reading that nothing else is worth the time.

It's Bob and George, and I remember that one years ago. Wink I also made an extremely short-lived sprite comic called 'The Lamers' many years ago, but I quickly lost absolute interest in it and sprite comics in general...

I just want to see people do something creative and well made with ripped sprites. Otherwise, what's the point in ripping them? These days we got YouTube vids, so I don't mourn the sprite comic.
