SM3DW Help
#1
Hey there. I'm looking to rip textures from Super Mario 3D World (more specifically, any textures to do with the sky), but ran into a bit of a road block. I was able to get the .szs files through Crediar, but rarcdump doesn't seem to work after using yaz0dec. EveryFileExplorer doesn't seem to be doing the trick, and SZS Explorer gives me a "cannot load" error with every file. If anyone can point me in the right direction, it'd be much appreciated.

I have already tested to rip skies of SM3DW, but the files doesn't have sky textures, the model is a red gradient in 3ds max.
I can send you a file if you want.

I remember seeing that, but there was also another .DDS in there, and at about 3AM this morning, I was able to get it. Sadly, it looks like this, and this is its full size:

I made a lot of assumptions in doing so, but I did some color correction in GIMP and got it to this:

All in all, the process to get a single file is either genuinely horrendous, or I'm doing it the hard way. The .WUD gets extracted into hundreds of .SZS files, then based on the name, you pick the one(s) you're looking to get textures from. Then it's a chain; .SZS to .RARC, .RARC to .BFRES, .BFRES to .GTX, .GTX to .DDS, .DDS to .JPG/.PNG/.TIFF. It would generally end once you've got the .DDS, but the script I have to rip those files and convert them in 3DS Max doesn't work due to it being the 2015 version.

Later on today, I'm hoping to start making a single batch process for this for my ease of use, so we'll see how that goes.

Can you upload more skyboxes ?
I'm very interested.
If you want I have do some batch scripts to extract szs and bfres (textures).

I can give it a shot. I tried extracting one from the beach levels, but it was an entirely different color set from the main one I showed you. If I get time later this week, I can just upload the .DDS files, though I'm not sure what part of the conversion process is producing the distorted colors, or if those are the original colors of the textures and they're being changed in-game.

Would you prefer .SZS files instead?

I have all the files, just the texture files are red and green.
Can you tell me in gimp what you have do to fix it ?

Well, I desaturated the colors, then added a new layer above it, filled with with the blue color you primarily see there, then set the style to "Color", then fiddled with the opacity. The color code you use and opacity are going to vary, since each sky texture will vary.

Like I said, I can give it a shot on my end, but I'd need to know what color they're supposed to be. Mind sending me the textures you have?
