One thing that I REALLY don't like is when a game doesn't give you the slightest hint as to where to go next: probably my best example are Zelda games. Admittedly, either I'VE gotten better or the games have gotten easier, but there's a lot of times where you'll find yourself going in circles in a dungeon when the fact of the matter is that they really didn't tell you where on earth you're supposed to be looking.

The most recent offender of this I've played is Yo-Kai Watch. For Christ's sake it's a game for kids
But there's one point in the game that one story mission is hidden by LITERALLY a SKILL WALL.


OK: So one mission ingame, a character says "meet me at night in the warehouse". 
You get to the warehouse and there's AN ACTUAL WALL LABELED "LEVEL C"... 
so you have to rank up your watch to Rank C (and prove you can tame stronger Yokai) by visiting the watch shop...
which the shop owner tells you "Show me that you've battled these three Yokai, then come back to me" and you're not told AT ALL where these Yo-Kai are. And it's not like Pokemon where you have a built-in LOCATION function. You just have to magically figure out that said Yo-Kai hide in back alleys.
Then, once you catch those, you go back to the watch shop, upgrade your watch and continue your mission....which, the zany thing is that you have to sneak out of your room at night. And it's night the whole time (there is no ingame clock - that's in the second game!)

The game's dialogue not once hints you into any of these things. Like seriously, would it have been hard to drop hints like this?

Quote:"I'll meet you in the warehouse. Good luck even trying to see the higher-rank Yokai that guard the entrance - that watch of yours looks like a child's toy."

>"Yikes - maybe we should go see the watch shop owner, Nate!"


Quote:"I'll need to prove you're worthy of the C-Rank watch upgrade! You'll need to find these three Yokai. I heard they like to wander in back alleys in Downtown Springdale."



like really, would it have been torture to fit in ONE EXTRA LINE of dialogue

Mostly the bullshit or funny ones, lol.  They have a disclaimer that tropes aren't inherently bad, but there are some that you'll find almost no one wants in a game, heh.  The ones I listed being popular examples.

If I ever end up doing a let's play of Metal Gear Solid this is probably what I'm likely going to do.

Hell I'll even film myself doing it.
