[PAID]Crack Password on FileVault HDD
#1
So this is a bit of a long shot, but a 3-4 years ago my original HDD quit working on me.

Booting it up through an external enclosure shows everything is still there, however my main account was encrypted with File Vault (don't give me any shit please.)
I'd really love to retrieve all of my old work off of it, yet I can't remember the password..

What i'm needing is someone who can work with me through Skype or PM's to get this .sparsebundle cracked, i'd be willing to pay $150.00 to get my old work back.
please send me a PM if you're interested.

Shouldn't this be in the Commisions section?

(I'm not interested btw, just being a jerk pointing something out)

So I have good news and bad news. The good news is that if this is an original FileVault bundle (and not the newer FileVault 2, which is much more difficult [if not impossible with a strong password] to break), there is a chance it can be recovered. The bad news is that it still requires cracking 1024-bit RSA which is no small task, or 3DES which might be slightly easier.

I have even better news though. A group of security researchers released a tool to decrypt FileVault and FileVault 2 encrypted disks. Let me preface this with an obligatory statement that we do not condone using this utility on data you do not own but, assuming it is your data, you can find the utility here: https://code.google.com/p/vilefault/

I can't make any claims for its effectiveness but it's certainly worth a shot. Good luck!

Edit: And yes, this is a commission. I'll move it now.

Any idea what kind of password we're talking about here? Like is it a randomly generated string or simply something you set yourself and forgot? (I have no specific experience with Filevault encryption)
I only ask because there's always the fallback of bruteforcing it, it's time consuming (less if you can be specific about how many characters of what type are involved) but as long as you do it right you'll get in eventually, it's not really my forté since I'm not a Mac type, but from what I remember CrowbarDMG handled Filevault.

'Decrypts TrueCrypt, FileVault2, and PGP volumes in minutes' i'm sure this is exaggeration that depends on your computers specs, but

http://www.lostpassword.com/kit-forensic.htm

ignore the hefty price tag, i'm sure you can find it on a certain piracy website for less or you can throw me the filevault thing and i'll run it and see what happens, unsure what sensitive information is on there
