Submissions (OR: "Why is my sheet taking so long to get on the site?")
#31
It is just theoretical for now as it'll be a while until anything is formally published -- I was just thinking about it.

Ah, alright. But if you are going to make a real game then go ahead and submit the sprites after the game's release. It's always nice when a game developer supports the site with their sprites.
Unless when they literally make a crappy game just to get their "original character" on the site. (Yes, this happens sometimes.) That's not so nice then and will most likely result in rejection of the sprites. But I assume this is not your primary goal here. Wink

I uploaded a lot of sound submissions since January, and I was wondering what's the holdup?

Also, I plan on uploading the fighting voices from Storm 4 and it's expansion pack Road to Boruto, and I am wondering if this thumbnail would be correct. It ain't the boxart, that's f'sure.

Did you...read the first post?? Someone's gotta manually check those files and when you upload a giant zip file of them seeing if they're Quality, it...takes a while. Especially with a game like Ultimate Ninja Storm with its giant roster of characters

Also just a tip,

Most of the icons for a game are later used across the site and the staff generally likes when the ingame content is showcased as a result, so it's generally better you get a screenshot of gameplay than a sample of Kishimoto's art (believe it)
Like this for example - except there's probably cooler ones where Sasuke's blowing a giant ball of fire into Naruto's face or something (you can totally Google it too)
Also, I'd crop the image so you see all the punchy action and not a series of lifebars

But yeah if we just had promo art assets for games we'd just have a bunch of Kotabe art for Mario games lol

If I might say as this has come up recently, this site is run by hobbyists, and a skeleton crew checks through every submission made by every person in order to maintain the sites quality. So be patient and thank all of you hard working folks for that. Also I'm volunteering my time for model checking if it's wanted. I have some hours open late nights and more on the weekends. I'd need a primer on what I'm checking for of course. Else I'm there if you want me, I love to help.

I think the first step of a "primer" isn't needed from us. Tongue. Judging the submissions I haven't passed through of yours before, you still aren't up-to par with what the site requires through submissions. You still submit in the wrong model format, and I think you should brush up on submission guidelines given to you first. But, what other better way to brush up then encourage those to post their models on a forum "Show-reel" thread before approval so you could peer-edit them, and maybe help them to get a bigger chance at acceptation! We'd really appreciate it, and it would help you to detect and hone in on your model-ripping skills, which can be applicable to your own submission as well!

Noted. And ouch, no need to be belittle me again. Nor others here for that matter I already comprehend your feelings towards my person in the PM. You also only checked about eight models previously, four of which I had modified. Since I followed your request and uploaded them as they come out from the game itself. So it's utterly ridiculous of you to say they are "vastly inferior" or some such as they are the models in their extracted format exactly. This is just you attempting to cyber-bully and it isn't working. As staff you should know better, else know your not getting a rise on my end nor making me feel small. I've been a webmaster of a 3d model and game modding site myself for as long as this site has been on the web, just because your first meeting me does not make me nubile nor incompetent. Other's do not share your personal view which frankly appears abusive on my end as do your barbs to other newer members around the forum, full disclosure just to try and close this book as my olive branch to you was apparently ineffective.

Else I made such a thread in Project Organization already. There I was told the formats were OBJ (which you rejected) or DAE, FBX. So I moved to FBX as they retain the proper texture coordinates. Textures to be in PNG with separate alphas. If this is wrong, and I have closing 100 submissions since your last check in I'd think it would be simpler to tell me what exact format then is required if not OBJ or FBX? Because the rest of the models on this site certainly seem to be in those formats.

Else I knew you would disapprove, I was just being nice and offering regardless. Like I told you before as well this isn't a job for me and I'm doing this primarily for other site requests and school (3d modelling and animation). This is just done in the hour or so I have before character study and bed. Else I'm dropping them off here as is and meeting standing requests on your forums from other members, if wanted good if not oh well. Not my loss.
Again though your bullying is uncalled for and I think your abusing your moderator tag here and I'm saying this to other staff as well as I see it whom seem to have a nice candor themselves, especially when your coming at me like this while I'm sticking up for your staff and providing them a compliment in the same post? That is just silly to me, sorry and I don't really wish to continue putting up with your snark while I'm about if it's okay with anyone else.

Else again as I was saying thank you to every one of you that puts your time into this, you have my patience as far as waiting for pending approvals goes.

If you believe that you've been bullied at all during your time here, I'm afraid to say that this community is likely not going to be a place that you will feel accepted. On many forums, people are restricted in how they can interact with each other - while we do this to some degree, we are a community of people striving to better ourselves as well as those around us.

You have received legitimate criticisms and information on how to better improve your submissions, in turn helping you to learn how to work with the medium in which you are a webmaster. If you are lacking in understanding of some elements to your job, as appears to be the case with several submissions being rejected, then as a webmaster surely you want that to be nothing?

I have my faults as an administrator for these sites, but part of any managerial role is knowing your strengths and weaknesses, and assigning those fit for a tasks to perform them better than you would be able to. This is the reason why our site manages to strive - its great community that works with members to help them improve. If we don't, we're a forum of uninformed newcomers with no improvement besides being told we're great at what we do, even if it's not true.

Please do not accuse staff of misconduct when you can't take criticism. That might sound harsh, but insinuating that you have had a particularly rough treatment when that is not the case grinds my gears slightly, and I take it as an insult on not only my managerial choices, but also on behalf of my staff and friends.

I suggest you read things with a little less anger and contention, and instead read them with the mindset of educating and directing you to ways of improving. We want you to get better, we want to get better, and we're not going to achieve that by mollycoddling.

You're part of me, it's so easy to see the simple truth
But most of all, nothing couldn't be solved when I'm with you

Yeah, if you can't differentiate constructive criticism and bullying, you're going to find life to be a particularly difficult journey.

You have proved my point against yourself, and still have proven yourself wrong. We really appreciate the help, but we don't need an elitist who can't handle simple honest criticisms and delivers a snarky attitude in thinking their background proves who they are and that it changes the site's guideline submissions to match their compliances. Even as a staff member I still have my screw-ups and I get criticized as well. No one's perfect, no matter who you are. If you think the criticism I provide is "bullying", you clearly don't understand following the rules clearly labeled out, and that are supposed to be read before you even submit, which you fail to do with a bad attitude. And, as well, to clear up submission guidelines you still don't know, a base format of an OBJ or a DAE is required. Not just an fbx, which you provided. The ones that had OBJs still were rejected, as your FBXs were broken anyway.

Rhetorical question here, but am I the only one who has noticed that when one user questions an admin, every admin the VGResource over, has too jump to the questioned admins defense??

In all seriousness however, SickAlice was given partially correct information where submissions are concerned. I told him / her that submitting .fbx files is fine, but I forget to inform him / her to include an .obj as well. I think you admins, in all your infinite wisdom, shouldn't remain defensive and actually try to see things from SickAlices side. He / she has at least attempted to submit content to the resources. That's more than I can say for a majority of users that frequent the resources. SHIT, SickAlice even volunteered to help sort through submissions... I don't see anyone else putting their hands up!!!

I can't speak for past instances but I think you're misreading this particular situation. The reason other staff are getting involved is not to try to shift blame or cover anything up. It's because accusations of cyber-bullying have been thrown around in public and that's not something we take lightly. The correct way to handle all of this would have been via PM or privately on Discord or something but since it wasn't and an accusation against one of the site staff was made, the next logical step is to escalate it up the chain which is why Dazz stepped in as well.

I realize this can come off as the staff ganging up on people but that's never the goal. I'll be the first to admit that this shouldn't have gone beyond Pingu and SickAlice but the situation didn't allow for that here. For what it's worth, her willingness to contribute to the site and the offer to help are both appreciated and that isn't being ignored. She's just not ready to review submissions based on our policies and requirements at the moment.

I understand Dazz stepping in. Dazz is the "absolute authority" on the resources, and he said his piece. What I don't understand is why Ton and Pingu had to add their jabs. All they're doing, is pushing what could be a valuable member away. As soon as Dazz stepped in, they should've left well enough alone. 3 admins on 1 user, and every "wanker" that's thanked those posts as well. You really think this is going to encourage SickAlice! I remember years ago when I had an agument with multiple users and I was so close to quitting the resources, but your helped me out by offering choice advice, Petie. Maybe the same should be done for SickAlice, by Pingu & Ton, as a way to mend bridges!

I'm actually inclined to agree that Ton's post wasn't strictly necessary but I believe he was actually trying to offer her advice (albeit in a way that came off a little too bluntly) to re-read the rejection messages/PMs she received and take them as constructive criticism instead of a personal attack. Pingu was defending himself from an accusation so I don't fault his return to the thread though the hostility on all sides of this conversation is a bit unnecessary. I honestly don't think any ill-will was meant but the phrasing can come off as abrasive and escalate what would have been a simple conversation into an argument.

Re-read the posts in this thread and you'll see advice was actually provided but it was mixed in with more heated conversation and is likely easily missed. I'd say the best thing to do is let this rest and if anyone has any issues they want to address, to do so with me directly via PM so this thread can get back on track and we're not dragging anyone through the mud in the public eye. That said, a more calmed-down resolution posted in this thread would also be fine should anyone involved want to do so.

It wasn't "necessary," no, but if you're going to come on here and accuse the staff of things we actively try to fight against, I'm going to get a little defensive.
I could have timed it better, but I'd also like to make sure at the first instance of that kind of accusation, that we nip it in the bud. That's all.
