Animaniacs: A Gigantic Adventure

Hello!
That game is rather old and I'm ripping sprites from it:

However, I want to know if there is a program which can rip sprites direct from the source image.

The method which I use is with screenget and sprite tracer to remove the colors which I don't want.

If ripping from the source was viable, then I could rip sprites which can't be captured normally.

It have both .res and .bres file formats.

HOLY CRAP I LOVED THAT GAME AS A KID!

Anyway, I would take a look at the game myself, but I sold it years ago with several other computer games that I couldn't get working on my new computer, so...

Perhaps you can check the demo and take a look, it can be downloaded freely over internet.

I took a shot at this, and I had some success... but not to a useful extent. The .bres files seem to contain stuff like animation names, while the .res contain the actual graphics data. Within these I found things like image dimensions and data lengths, but the data itself is compressed. I can tell this not only by it producing more or less static images at a range of bit depths, but the length of the data is less than the width multiplied by the height (e.g. the length of a 32x32 image is less than 1024). If this wasn't a 1999 PC game I would consider the bit depth being something less than 8bpp but that's very unlikely.

Unfortunately I can't do squat if I don't know what kind of compression this is, and there's literally no information on these game formats ("animaniacs .res .bres" gives this thread as the only results in Google).

Your rips look very good though, so if nobody else manages to figure this out then at least screen capturing is an option (albeit a tedious one).

There are other sprites, but the sheet is huge enough.
Guess I'll make a sheet for effects and event sprites.

Oh, and just a heads-up: We no longer use those old game/sheet icons. We now submit just the pictures only, and the site fills in the rest. (it's 240x125 for a game icon, 148x125 for a sheet icon)

As Mystie said, they're just images without the border, but otherwise it's the same as normal icons. They have to be specific sizes though, 240x125 for games and 148x125 for sheets.

And the site automatically does the border and background. The name that appears on the icon are just taken from the sheet's/game's name.

I'm assuming he's a playable character, so I'd put "Playable Character". For other sprites you'd have sections like "NPCs", "Enemies", "Backgrounds", and so on. There aren't any concrete rules but if you browse around the site and see how other games are sectioned you'll get an idea of how to go about it.
