Sword Art Appreciation - Anime Thread
I'd mainly watch GT for the story/lore, although I bet the action and stuff is still pretty decent. I do know that DB is overall better, I read it up to the start of the King Piccolo saga but then the scanlator stopped :c

GT is basically a pretty well-made Dragon Ball fanfic. I wouldn't say it's the worst anime I've ever seen.

I'll just go ahead and reveal what I've been watching lately:
SoniAni: Super Sonico the Animation
Haiyore! Nyaruko-san
Kuragehime
Oshiete! Galko-chan
Azumanga Daioh

They're all really fun and relaxing to watch. I recommend to any anime-watcher. :>
Also, for anyone learning Japanese: you should watch a more slice-of-life comedy like Azumanga Daioh or Oshiete! Galko-chan because the dialogue is very blunt and easy to understand.

Discovered a couple more fun and light-hearted selections:

FLCL (It's not exactly light-hearted as in no drama, but there's so much happening at once that you can only sit back and relax. It's nothing as emotional as EVA or PMMM.)
Bamboo Blade (A "feel-good" anime with some action and more than enough funny stuff. I'd say it even passes the Bechdel test*, because even though there are some dudes who are part of the cast, there really aren't any love interests. It mainly focuses on high school comradery and just having fun with friends.)

*In other words, a feminist could watch it and not call it out on being overly-romantic or sexual. There's some fanservice, but not SoniAni levels of fanservice.

Had a random thought about the Magic Tree House series yesterday, which brought me to discover the movie:

I'm only partway through it, but I like it so far.

This gif sold me too. Hell I'm gonna look into this when I get a chance.

Meanwhile, I just started the new Osomatsu-san reboot (and I mean literally just started, just finished episode 2. Not gonna bother with the original Osomatsu-kun series from the 70's/80's)  I watch anime pretty rarely, so when a series gets my attention that's saying something.

So far I'm loving it - it's got a very "what the actual fuck is going on" vibe; I guess comparable to Spongebob or Regular Show? (though comparing it to either of those to this is a real stretch)

They're a bunch of 11-minute non-sequitir (??? it doesn't follow an arcing plot, which is...something else I haven't seen in a while lmao) episodes that revolve around these sextuplets doing stupid shit, like getting a job or snooping on one anothers' daily activities. The first two episodes were just so good  and so goofy that I guess I'll watch the other 22.

Eh, that was easily the highlight of the film. After that point, there really isn't too much worth looking into. It just gets too buried in its own philosophies to enjoy it like a zombie movie. It ended up being about Frankenstein's monster and the concept of the soul.

Just saw the premiere for Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 4. I'm excited since Part 4 is my favorite pre-Steel Ball Run arc, but I don't know if I can get down with the whole permanent pastel color-shift aesthetic (as opposed to earlier parts where colors would shift in dramatic moments).

Oh well. It'll give me something to watch until the new Berserk series premieres in July.

For any moe fans out there. This film has a rather interesting premise that mostly tech-savvy people will fully understand Tongue.

Cyberpunk anime kinda looks down my alley, because I'm exploring the fusion of superheroes and mecha (not your typical sentai, I'm talking more like KanColle and Strike Witches), but most of it is pretty old and is super violent with a really deep plot.

With that said, I'd probably be better off watching KanColle or Strike Witches. Though I did recently discover Iria: Zeiram the Animation, which is from the mid-90s. It looks interesting although it comes from a time that anime was super dark and edgy.

Any suggestions of cyberpunk anime? Preferably one that doesn't have the tone a horror film.

So, I was watching this Sword Art Online anime with my little brother. He sure got annoyed when I pointed out that the plot is Spy Kids 3.

Don't insult Spy Kids 3 like that.

I believe that since most MMORPGs allow you to play as cute girls, these manga/anime franchises decide that it's best to pander to the MMORPG gamer audience by focusing on cute girls in their manga/anime (let's face it, the male protagonist of SAO becomes a cute girl for a while). That's probably a reason why the franchise has been grossing so high since it started.

Not saying that it's a bad thing at all, because it pretty much started with dot-hack, which I hear is great for the most part. There's even some modern anime that draws influence from them like Baka to Test - RPG logic in a school building.

That sounds about right

A bit off-topic here:
The MMORPG I started ripping, or rather, dumping from moths ago has the option to play as cute girls, my character actually is one. Sadly, the selection of cute or sexy female clothing is lacking /: That kinda disappointed me after all the debating with myself over what gender to play as, because I wanted to make the most out of choosing to be a girl. I only have one cute outfit, not even kidding.

And damn, I started watching SAO when it first aired on Toonami (yeah, sure i'll get haters for that...) , but I missed the first episode, and then my parent's cable provider had a dispute with Turner, knocking Cartoon Network and other channels off our programming for a while. This was resolved like a few weeks to a month later. However, I had lost my motivation to watch CN/[AS]/Toonami for a while, idk why. By the time I started watching it again, the last few episodes were all I got to watch. I did get to see SAO II all the way through, though.
