Here I'm going to share my thoughts and WIPs as someone who's new to sprite ripping. Right now I'm interested in ripping from arcade games only but that might change.

So, TGM2. The reason why I've decided on this game is simple: I love the animated backgrounds of it and couldn't find them in good quality. I obviously didn't expect this to be easy, but little did I know what awaits...
To put in short: I cannot understand why background animation frames are stored like THAT.

Each animation consists of 32 frames, which are stored in groups of 4 sprites, scrambled like this: frame 1 row 1, frame 2 row 1, frame 3 row 1, frame 4 row 1, frame 1 row 2 and so on. One can imagine how tedious was the process of separating and rearranging rows in the correct order. Yeah, and also backgrounds are stored not in an order they appear in game. Good thing they all use the same pallette which changes dynamically. Which is also a bad thing since you need to actually reach level 900+ to get a correct pallette. At least my previous experience in TGM1 and the magic of save states helped with that a plenty.
