Yeah, I was somewhat skeptical about the range thing, which is why I had a backup idea!

Which I sprited!

Quirby uses the 60s(?) Nintendo Toy Ultra Hand to grab people. has a lot better range.

I don't think attacking behind you will do any good, considering this isn't Smash Bros, and you face your opponent the entire time.

Here's a comparison:
Now, in the Kirby animation, you'll notice there's a frame where Kirby is facing the opposite direction: this is the build-up of the animation, Kirby is building up torque so that he releases more force. Then follows an intermediate frame which expresses speed, and finally the attack frame itself. All that took four frames, yet it is a convincing display of strength.

Your current animation has three frames including the idle frame. Quirby is facing forward in both last frames, and the only thing that changes is the length of his foot. What's lacking most is the build-up to the attack, but you could also have an in-between frame like above.

Keep going, and don't hesitate in posting gifs too! Smile

it doesnt really look like a combo whatsoever, more like him shooting his foot out once and keeping it out there for a really long time, have him draw his foot back quickly and spin around and kick with the other foot or something, if you really want to keep that same second attack it needs more build up time

Please don't be lazy when you make your character. You want your character to be the best he can be, right? Then why not put some more effort into it and stop ignoring what people have to say?

Quirby, I'm going to be frank with you. You need to put more effort into your sprites, man. I mean, they're not just not the same quality as the other people who are involved and spriting their characters. I wouldn't be saying this if you've shown improvement since the first attempts, but you're kind of ignoring advice on how to improve. You're not terrible by any means, but you need to step up your game. I mean, look at some of the completed characters. Compare your sprites. Compare your animations. Now I admit that a lot of them are by extremely talented people, but not all have been. The problem is is that those whose sprites weren't on par were given advice and they followed it. I honestly suggest starting over. Don't be lazy on your animations (such as the kicks or just having items spawn and having a small, kind of lazy animation of something popping be your attack). I don't know how lax TomG is about adding characters after the initial build is done, but I wouldn't include you unless you made vast improvements. Shit, I probably wouldn't even be that strict, I would probably be halfway okay if you just implemented people's advice. If I'm being mean, I apologize, but I'm pretty straight forward.

Being lazy is kinda true but not kinda true at the same time. To be honest, in all seriousness (well, not really) I was just saying that in a somewhat form of sarcasm, hence TOTALLY CAPS. Though, I probably DID go a bit too fast in making that animation....Welp.... Blank

The first attack has no range, and man, that side sprite looks ugly.

saying the side sprite looks ugly wont help op at all. SURE, he can figure out the problem himself as an artist, but since he seems to be somewhat of an amateur, he still needs guidance.

as of critique on the sprites, vary your animations a bit. your character shouldnt be pulling out his gameboy all the time when he has his fists to do the talking! but if that is going to be his gimmick, at least be a bit more creative than the usual "video game character/object out of it"

To be fair, some things have been explained pretty well multiple times and it didn't really stick. I figured putting it pretty bluntly that it doesn't look good might've worked.

I made the flash drive horizontal, tried making the side sprite better, made a new jump punch (SPINNING IN CIRCLES WITH A 2DS), and now Pac-Man becomes his very own projectile. JOY~

(Also I read through most of the critique in this thread once again)

I actually thought that was his fist but then I realize it's a Game Boy and oh my god

He's got no range because it's too small. Try making the Game Boy hilariously large, like this to extend that little baby bitty range:

Otherwise, every single attack Quirby has will keep him within throw range. ):
You might want to also fix Quirby's "hand" - it kind of looks weird just suddenly, abruptly ending where the Game Boy begins. It looks like you just slapped the Game Boy onto it which is just mind-blowingly lazy

edit: ...oh what happened to the gameboy O_O
edit2: also oh geez the hat

can't you shade that hat or anything it's so
square

Actually I think the outline is the problem. It's jagged and banded (not really sure about the banding since I'm on mobile, but whatever).
