An excercise in spriting
#16
Okay, something completely different now. I'm trying something new here, and for that, I need backgrounds. Lots of them.

So I decided to practice making them.

Peach's Castle

Yeah, big mistake starting with Peach's Castle, especially since I wanted to go for a distant castle background. Note that the underside won't be visible in the final composition I'm going to plan with it, as it will also include a big city. It's based on the various Peach's Castles, as I wanted to create one that conveyed a really big castle. Most versions of said castle do feel a bit tiny, so I wanted something that would really be impressive for a first shot.

Okay, I'll let you guys in on the idea I have. I'm pretty sure that the chances are very high nothing will come of it, but I had this idea of putting all ideas I have in my head into stills, or rather, sprited dioramas. I'll be using HTML5 to actually display the dioramas, and will try and make YouTube videos explaining what the story behind the scenes were, what my original plans for the idea was, and what the future holds for the idea.

One of the episodes I'm going to do is Project Captain N: The Future Quests. Don't worry, I won't exactly abandon the concept of the story, but for now I'm putting it on hold. This castle is part of the original storyline where Kevin Keene first enters Videoland. I wanted to show Kevin a really iconic scene, and Peach's Castle was the perfect landmark to show Kevin he's not in Kansas, err, California anymore.

In other words, here's a small preview of another thing I'm going to work on:

Small hint, this character is a continuation of the other characters I've done so far.

EDIT: I just realized I could essentially get rid of one shade of very dark grey.

EDIT2:

I've added to the set a bit. It's nothing much, I need a lot of things, like a sky and landscape elements, perhaps some trees as well.
Big sigs are for scrubs.
