Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage, World Models
#1
Hello VG-Resource!

I'm working on getting all the worlds from Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage.

I used MrModez's SpyroWorld tool to get all the worlds in an .OBJ file format, however, the way they're extracted is...... not so understanding, have a look for yourself.

So, I've decided to sort out these worlds myself, at the moment I only have Hurricos, but I'm going to be working on others soon.

Here is a screenshot of Hurricos, from the SpyroWorldViewer:

Here is a temporary link to Hurricos until my model gets approved.

(I tried submitting yesterday, declined due to the texture being a Bitmap, I have changed the texture into a png)

My next world: Colossus.

Very cool! It always makes me happy to see people ripping models and levels from the older Crash and Spyro games. Smile

They were all unique.

Got Colossus done, however, I do not know why, but there are gridmarks over the world, both Hurricos and Colossus, it's possible the engine Spyro 2 was on hid the gridmakrs, or maybe I used the wrong model, as every world has a ".F .L .M .MW and a .S" obj, however I know that some of them are LOD models, which when I apply the texture, really messes it up.

Anyway, here's some screens of Colossus in both SpyroWorldViewer and 3DS Max.

It's got nothing to do with any sort of grid, the UV maps are lightly off. It happens with spyro 1 and 3 too. The spyro level viewer displays the levels perfectly, but once you export it to an editor, it gets all funky.

This is the level in the viewer.

And this is the level in Misfit Model 3D, it's scaled a bit funny but you can get the point that the texture's messed up.

I gotta say, in the 2nd pic, it does look more castle like.

I use 3DS Max to view and edit the Spyro worlds.

Anyway, sorry about the lack of updates, I have exams at college at the moment and thankfully, my final (If I haven't failed any) is next Wednesday, when after the final exam, I can get back to sorting these worlds out.

.OBJ models don't support vertex colors, something that the Spyro games rely on heavily. It's also keeping me from seriously ripping the models for this place. I'm curious as to how the world viewer interprets the vertex colors since the some versions of the level models have a funny UV map.

I do not know how they extract model or anything. But its amazing how they are people that remember old games as Spyro. I hope you can continue you extraction at times

I only hope Mr Modez (Or whoever made the SpyroWorld tool) fixes this in a future version.

I've tried re-doing the UV map with no avail.

I use a tool called "SpyroWorld Viewer", it only works on the PS1 era Spyro games, if you have the ISO downloaded.

Also, who can forget the classic Spyro games?? I still actively play them on ePSXe to this day.

Don't worry, my extractions will continue, I got a ton of projects to keep me busy over the summer. Big Grin

Wow. I never though you can even get the World models of the Spyro games! Well, for the start point they always try to get the models of the characters of the games. But still... this sure help a lot!
