Earliest Gaming Memory
#1
Hey everyone, I've been wondering: What's everyone first (or fondest) gaming memory?

I'll start off with mine:

I was maybe 3 or 4 when we had an NES back in the day. I remember watching (with my siblings) my dad play Super Mario 3. It was almost mesmerizing seeing the characters move on the screen, the different power-ups, everything just grabbed my imagination. It was like seeing something magical happen before my eyes. The funny thing about this was that none of us wanted to play, but we wanted to watch our dad play, and were insistent on it.

Unfortunately, our NES broke and it was many years later that we got an N64. We would occasionally play games at our cousins house in-between then (they had a SNES) but I missed a big chunk of the 16-bit era.

around the time i was born, sonic 3 came out. my earliest memories were of sonic 3, specifically the snowboarding intro of ice cap zone, although i watched my brother play through a good amount of the game. apparently i would wake up and climb out of my bed, and find a way to open my door just so i could watch my brother play the game. my mom still has no idea how i was able to get out of my bed and open the door or anything since i was still pretty small.

since i was born on the edge of the snes's lifetime and the beginning of the n64's, i vaguely remember watching my mom play a link to the past, donkey kong country, and kirby super star. specifically kirby super star stuck out to me because of how colorful it was, and for a good chunk of my life - when we lost several of our favorite games - marshmallow castle's theme was stuck in my head until i was surprised with a new copy of the game on my 9th birthday.

shortly after both of these events, we lived in arizona for a brief period of time with our distant cousins. we had brought our snes so we played super mario kart a lot during the evenings. additionally, we brought our genesis and my cousin todd (who was older than me) thought that the spike ball roll of casino night zone on sonic 2 gave you points despite me clearly saying that they were taking away rings. i got real tired of todd's shit after a while.

my cousins recently got a n64 before we stayed with them and for the longest time i remembered the general theme song of yoshi's story, because i'd watch them play it occasionally before i took a nap.

I have a lot of childhood gaming memories, but I can't remember which came first:
  • Warcraft II on our Windows 95 (or was it DOS?) computer
  • Pokemon Yellow on my brother's original Gameboy
  • LoZ: Link's Awakening on my brother's original Gameboy
  • Puggsy on a Mega Drive my brother borrowed from one of his friends
It's probably one of those. They're definitely my fondest, anyway.

My Cousins had Kirby Super Star, it was a game that we would look forward to playing when we would go to their house; we would even try to remember and draw the partners after returning home. Kirby games have always been enjoyable experiences for me, it's one of the Nintendo franchises that's been leisurely and overall enjoyable to play in every iteration.

...Right. Apart from me not having any siblings at the time that's basically what I was gonna write when I saw the topic.

I still have my old NES though. I remember basically being stuck with it (while most of my friends had SNES or N64) until the early 2000s when my dad bought me a Playstation 2 for my birthday.

That must've been one of the greatest days of my life at that point. Going from a third generation console to a sixth generation was quite the leap and took some getting used to but damn, it was great.

OMG

I WANT PARENTS WHO PLAY VIDEOGAMES

i'm also one of the oldest posters here. get ready for *mindfuck*

The earliest memory I have was when I was like 4. We (for a long time) borrowed my cousins' Atari 2600 and my earliest memories were Frogger and Mario Bros. APPARENTLY when I was about 10, we returned it to them when one of them got married. I'd be thrilled to get a 2600 when I move out, but it doesn't seem too practical. ):

you guys got to see decent graphics when your parents played videogames when you were toddlers... this is the shit i saw when my CRT was playin the sickest new title
[Image: uVpRAR7.png]

the last i remember playing it was when i had a friend over. then, i always asked about it and it just kind of never came back out of the basement (probably because it was a pain in the ass to hook up) ):

It's funny because two years later I got an SNES and a Game Boy - and my first ACTUAL memories made were with Super Mario World. To be fair though, my mom actually played a lot of Tetris once I got the Game Boy, but I spent most of it playing Super Mario Land 2. :I

Christmas 1994

Super Bomberman 2 was out

I was watching the grown-ups play it and wishing I could play it. Video games seemed so cool.

I only remember one bit of dialog; my mom's cousin Lena said something along the lines of "why does the white one have a blue belly when the others are all the same color?"

Woah. I can remember things people said in Christmas 1994. I'm Rain Man.

Well, I was extremely young when I first played any video game system (probably older than four or five). The first one I remembered playing was the Sega Gamegear (it was actually my older brother's Gamegear) and I played a few games on it, such as a game based on the Bernstein Bears, a game based on Jurassic Park, and possibly a Sonic one. Later, my family got a Pico that I enjoyed to its full extent (I really enjoyed the crab mini game found in Pepe's Puzzles).

Here's a link in case some of you might not know what a Pico is.

It wasn't until when my youngest sister was born when my family got a Nintendo 64 (it was around 1997 when that happened). The first games I played on it were Turok and Subzero, but when my mother got upset with those two games having an M rating, she hid them away and convinced my father to get a more appropriate game, which was Super Mario 64. SInce then, I've been very fixated on Nintendo consoles (although i would play a few others if the games interest me enough to check them out).

I remember playing SMB3 and Dr Mario back when I was 2. Funny thing is that I was actually somewhat of a competent player back then. At the age of 3 I was able to get to world 3 or 4 I believe.

I also have fond memories of playing SML2 and Wario Land on the Gameboy Brick. I still remember discovering some random test room via a glitch on the second train level in Wario Land. At the time I didn't understand the concept of a glitch so I thought it was a feature, so I kept returning to the room to try and figure out what secrets it held.

Super Mario Bros. on the NES. While I was young at the time (around 6) and my gameplays were standard for kid play, I remember the time I stumbled across the Small Fire Mario glitch on my own. I've never heard it from anyone, read about it anywhere, or seen it anywhere until I pulled it off accidentally one day.

Yeah. I know. It's no finding the Minus World as a kid.

We had a NES at my house, so I remember playing Mario and Duck Hunt and what have you. A more specific memory is playing Sesame Street ABC because I loved the music.
