Question
Hey I want to extract voice files from the wii game Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. I got the file in .wbfs. I think I extracted the game files but they are in formats I can't open. Could someone help me through this?

Could you give the extensions of the file formats you found, and maybe upload some samples as well?

I got 1 file from the folders that might have the voices. Most of the extensions are .Bin, .brstm. Sorry if none of the files are gonna help. Very Sad If you need i can send a bunch of one type.

The .brstm files are audio files, that can be converted to .wav using VGSC. The .brar files are archives that can contain various other files, the one you gave specifically contained lots of audio files. They can be unpacked with this program, just drag the file onto the .exe, I think any .brstm files in it will automatically be converted to .wav.

.brres files are models, and .bin files usually contain random data that you probably won't need. If you just need to voices, the above information should be sufficient.

Thanks for the brsar unpack file! I got a bit of sound files from it. I tried the VGS converter, however, when I pressed the add file button and chose a file it did not appear on the program's list. When I drag and dropped the files and tried to convert them, the status put, "File isn't supported/doesn't exist." Also, there are over 10,000 .brstm files, is there a way to know which voice is whose?

Sorry about VGSC, it's due for an update but I haven't had much time for it recently. However, you shouldn't be getting that error. Did that happen with the .brstm you uploaded?

Files are usually grouped in folders or have some sort of naming convention. Files in the same folder or with similar names should be related in some sort of way, although that relation could well be something like a cutscene or event, rather than the character who's talking. If that's the case (which you'd have to check by testing a couple of grouped files) then I'm afraid there's no real way to get a specific character's voice files apart from manually finding them.

It's alright I got it to work! Big Grin
Also, I know this may be a dumb question, but is it possible to extract voice clips from ps3 games?

Ah, good that it's working now.

It probably is possible, but unfortunately I don't really have a clue on how to do it, PlayStation games are usually trickier to rip from than Wii or Gamecube. I'd suggest making another thread, although the "Questions, Info, and Tutorials" section might be a better place to ask than here, more people are likely to see it there. In any case good luck Smile
