Are things slower around here?

But it's one person's brain-fodder directing all the other people. Their creativity hardly even registers (with some exception). It's the same process for every creative endeavor. Games, music, movies... You have all these people working on it, and then you have the one person whose idea matters: the director.

You know, E-Man, I think we're kinda posting at each other here, as I gave SmackJeeves a quick look and dismissed it. I just went back to it and um. Oh. Nervous

- You're referring to a dedicated site, allowing users to share content. Like Tumblr, but instead of posts about your life, it's about sprite comics.

- I'm referring to a small gallery of featured comics (like Fireball20XL, yuck Sad)

We have two completely different ideas here flying around here, so uh. Oops. Shreksual Healing

If this idea were to come to fruition, Dazz would literally have to buy a new server (or just a significant amount of space on his existing one) just to host all of those webcomics on, lol. That idea works as like, a dedicated site...but I don't think the current VGR server could handle that - nor could we handle the ginormous database we'd have to manage on top of our Resource ones. :/

Yeah, buying a new server would be the top reason why Dazz would never go for a comic section. I don't know exactly what he had to go through to create three other web sites for models, textures, and sounds, but if he has to do that a fourth time for something like comics, he would flip. The only way he would contradict this assumption is if he is a fan of several online comics, but that seems unlikely, even if he is a huge supporter of sprite comics.

Obviously, if the comic section would be as vast as Smack Jeeves, the site would suffer problems that might actually kill it, but from what I can gather, even hosting a small comic gallery like fireball (although not exactly like fireball for reasons you explained already, Kosheh) might be a bit of a technological stretch. The only way it could probably work without making another server is to post the comics in its own section on the Spriters Resource (the sprite database we have), but neither this nor converting one of the already existing databases makes a whole lot of sense.

it's ok to suck, sucking is not bad, just try and aim to always do your best!

Well, who is to say that our project shouldn't have a director? Only, since a comic's art is decided by the artist (or in many cases it is), that side of the creativity isn't inhibited. And that's what we're trying to help with: spriting.

Except that the director dictates the overall tone and style of the artwork and an overwhelming majority of comic writers draw up layouts and rough depictions of what they want to page to look like.

I just sort of glazed over upon reading the past few pages because honestly I think expanding the site for sprite comics is a pretty dumb idea because who actually cares about sprite comics (that aren't Neorice quality) in 2013?

I mean, if we were to have, like, a comic subforum in the creativity section or something that'd be okay.
But I can pretty much say for sure that we currently don't have anyone here capable of (or willing to) write and commit to a real, quality, hand drawn, sprite comic.

@Kriven
Who is to say that we, as creative individuals, cannot collaborate on a project, even if there is a person heading it it all.
Healthy, collaborative effort has been around for a long time, and does exist even in things involve a centralized leader/director. Movie directors still rely on actors and actresses to bring their characters to life. Writers discuss and shoot ideas back and forth to further develop them, and rely on artists if illustration is required.

All I'm saying is, collaboration isn't some foreign concept, and thinking that good work can only be done by an overbearing individual is wrong.

@Vipershark
That's why I brought up the idea of things that are.... *ahem* "hip" and "poppin". =P
People still like games. I know it's failed in the past on some accounts, but starting up a big game-making project might be good.

I think we do have people who are capable, though willing is something else. Or maybe people who are willing, but not capable. =P

Yeah, I'm not saying collaboration is bad. I'm saying it typically doesn't produce anything without a pointman and people obligated to follow them.

Pretty much every band breaks up.

Speaking of collaborations and bands, thanks for reminding me! I had a pretty TUBULAR idea for a project, which...I guess I'll post...uh

well it's not really a spriting project but i think it's brilliant. Sorry it's sorta off-topic, but it's relevant to this thread, soooo

I find it interesting how stuck on spriting everyone is when the ambitions of the site have clearly broadened.

Well, it's not like anyone here (specifically outside of tMR) can make 3D models (or else there'd be activity in the SHE WANTS THE 3D thread) or sound effects or textures, so uh...
I guess we're still going with the same thing we've been going with for a decade?

care to show your new 3D models then?

or your new music album?

Like Vipershark said, literally no one here makes things other than spriting tbh. And those who know music or modelling literally doesn't care about teaching like we do with sprites. This is why they aren't big.

I did the She wants the 3D thread so I could experiment and learn things with the modellers. Everything I learned here was by myself.

Just gotta say, that's a real weak answer. The circumstances could be completely different, and past failures have no bearing on future attempts. Just poor attitude such as that.

Also, maybe the reason why not too many people wanna show their music or models is because this site is still mainly shown off as a spiriting forum? Also with music, it's kind of hard to put tutorials out for music, seeing as music really has no right or wrong, you just do what you do and make the sounds that you like. And if it's a thing of "WELL THEY NEED TO KNOW MUSIC THEORY", sure I'm paying a bunch of money for my degree and am being taught music theory, but it's something you can easily learn about yourself, you don't really need someone else to tell you.

I'm actually going to be getting a synth along with some other stuff soon, and a friend of mine wants to do a weird, fucking radular collaboration of banjo, grind core and slam death, so I'll be sure to post that up when we do that.

There have been music threads before (Gorsal has posted several and even Tyvon did a few when he was around) and there's an entire modeling section and the SHE WANTS THE 3D thread.

The problem isn't "it's a spriting forum", it's "everyone here is either apathetic and/or lazy and/or just doesn't have time."

How can you honestly say I'm wrong when every modern attempt at any sort of a compo has extremely low turn out and every TUGS in recent memory has just sort of fizzled out?
The few times we get member motivation high enough to start something collaborative, it always end up bombing because we don't have enough people to keep it going. Remember spriter's chess? No? Exactly.

I mean it's cool that you've got a synth and can do your own solo projects and are willing to post them but that's not the point of this thread, so...
