New tile ripper + project idea
#1
Introducing Awesome Tile Tool, a HTML 5 app for ripping tiles from screenshots.

I made it for purposes of creating an archive of sprites and tiles categorized hierarchically by type, for purposes of artistic comparison. I enjoy making small tiles, but I often don't know where to start. At small scales, certain clustering techniques succeed and others don't, due to the aliasing tendency of the eye. Also artists often have very different ideas about how to suggest a thing (for example, in Lagoon as many as five different styles are used to draw water). What if you could call up many different examples of an object drawn in pixel art with a few clicks? Think of how much creative freedom you would have if you could study -- quickly -- what works and what doesn't and why. I think this project would be helpful for pixel art enthusiasts and professionals alike, and I hope you will give it your consideration.
