The Freeware Games Compendium (Moving to imgur)
#1
REQUESTING LOCK UNTIL MOVING IS FINISHED

If you're on a budget like I am, you know it's really tough to fully support your gaming habit between Steam sales. Luckily, there's an entire world of games out there that you can download/play in your browser absolutely free of charge. That being said, there are thousands upon thousands of free games out there, and it's extremely difficult to weed out the good from the bad in the sea of interactive entertainment/art being put onto the web today.

To help you all navigate that sea, I've put together what I hope is a cogent list of recommendations, full of all sorts of juicy game details you can view right on this page to make an informed decision.

CURRENTLY MOVING TO

Check back in a few weeks for the complete compendium!

By the way, since most of these games might not be substantial enough to warrant threads of their own, feel free to discuss your experiences with any of the games mentioned in this thread, and suggest titles you think should go in the OP. I'll add them if I don't already have them on my current list!

Coma caught my eye, so I checked it out. I can't say that I really "got it", though. I did like the concepts and general game design, although it seemed pretty familiar to me. It probably should have been bigger than it was.

Dink Smallwood could be added, perhaps. It's not perfect and has a couple of flaws, but it's not bad for a free game.

Personally I don't really play a lot of freeware any more. I used to, but recently Humble Bundles have blown up my PC library quite a bit. I might check out a couple of these though, freeware can sometimes have some very nifty surprises.

La Mulana, Cave Story, Knytt Stories, Within A Deep Forest. Imperative candidates for any freeware game list.

Had those on the list from the beginning! I'll actually be uploading a list of all of the games I'm due to post and their basic specifications in a moment.

I decided that the OP was starting to get pretty lengthy and hard to manage in terms of formatting, so I'm currently in the process of transferring all of the descriptions and recommendations over to an Imgur album, as well as adding the remaining ones.

If a mod could lock this thread for now until that's all done, that would be awesome.
