This also happens when trying to unsubscribe to a thread, and although it's been doing so for a while now I remember someone saying it should get fixed with the new site. Hopefully they're working on it.

This is a pretty rotten 'first post' topic but it even happened when I signed up just now ;-)
I did manage to change my settings to 'Auto subscribe with instant notification'. This could be your solution. Enable it and post a reply in the thread you want to follow!

There are some weird issues with the forum software that I'm not entirely sure how to solve. This is among them. I'll continue to try to find a solution but it could be a while.
