Honestly Act: Zero really isn't as bad as its reputation suggests.
It was just that at the time that it came out, there weren't many (if any) GRIMDARK MAKEOVER games and most people hadn't seen anything like it before.
Yeah, it's stupidly hard and one of the achievements takes literally years of straight grinding to get, but the game itself really isn't that bad. There are MUCH worse games out for the 360 but at the time it came out it was a relatively new concept which is where all the hype (and therefore bad reviews) came from.
I just don't like the re-design. The game itself probably isn't too horrible but the whole death-Halo like theme is almost like a mockery to Bomberman fans.
yeah, if you analyze it it's just your average bomberman battle game; while it isn't anything like the classic bomberman, I believe that was what HUDSON originally wanted to do in the NES game.

Yeeeaaahhhh I kinda haven't beat ML3 yet...
But eh I doubt he's dead, that's too extreme for a Mario game. Bowser's been dropped in lava on multiple occasions, turning him into a skeleton (AKA Dry Bowser) and he still lives.
Um hi, before he was a main villain he was Cackletta's underling. She not only died but you DESTROYED her SOUL. You physically killed her, Fawful then placed her soul in his headgear and then had her possess Bowser to form Bowletta. She then eats you and you fight her soul. You don't just kill her, you wipe her out of all forms of existence. Now that's extreme.
and Fawful commits suicide. After you beat his soul(a reference to Cackletta's death) he says something along the lines of going into the dark forever and taking you with him. His soul then self destructs and Fawful is no more just like his mistress. These are dark turns for Mario games but personally I thoroughly enjoyed them.
Well I meant graphical violence more or less. But yeah if you do think about those things then they are worse I guess. I just don't think the M&L games ever showed anything too in the way of graphical violence, since they're cartoony. That's what I meant. Sorry I'm always so confusing, I suck at explaining stuff!

Clearly you don't remember the Luigi rape scene.
In all seriousness though, I do think the format of having RPG bosses completely and utterly destroyed works a lot better. On a mildly on-topic note, I really enjoyed how the M&L built up Fawful to be the main villain by M&L3. First he was the memorable secondary villain, then the second game he foreshadowed his return, and then he was there.
I dunno, I'm rambling now. I'm really tired.

I'd rather not see characters that were that memorable killed off either, but it did add darker theme to the games. Also I loved the way it built up as well

Gorsal is right; Look at the box art for the original NES version.
Space Marine with a bomb.
It only turned cartoony later.
Fun fact: Act:Zero is canon

Huh I thought that box art was just the American artwork. Like what they did with Mega Man.

But this is the Japanese cover:

Which is funny because that's even CLOSER to Act:Zero
Well it's not exactly the same, IMO. Plus that was just the box art. Just like Mega Man, he doesn't actually look like that in-game which is fine with me. But in Act Zero he does which is what I have a problem with.

If Act Zero was a good game, I don't think the redesign would be a HUGE problem (only if it was a spin-off series though and not a replacement). But it's more the game was just so bad.
Though people get mad about everything now days. I mean just look at DMC. Dante went from typical could possible be a transexual anime man with a long coat to a guy in a long coat with black hair and the new DmC has been condemned by many before launch (even though Capcom is sucking balls at the moment). Now if they had made him say, a robot, then yeah - people have the right to complain (then again Probotector was just fine).
I think I had a point somewhere in there...

No you didn't. People have a right to bitch when someone presents a totally different character and tries to convince you it's the same character you know and love.
If the game is fun and good, that's great, I might even like it. Don't you dare tell me that this bloke is Dante, though.

Nope.
This is the Japanese megaman box art.
