Boktai Sprite replacement project help (GBA)
#1
I currently want to replace the Django and Sabata sprites from Boktai - The Sun is in Your Hands and Boktai 2 - Solar boy Django, with the sprites in Boktai 3 - Sabata's Counter attack. However I'm a total n00b when it comes to ripping. I already got hold of a couple of ripping tools but I'm having trouble replacing the sprites... mainly cuz I can't see the sprites with Unlz.gba. I get this on all 3 games:

or this

Any help?
I know it's not much of a big deal, but I like the Boktai 3 sprites better than the boktai 1 and 2 sprites.

Thanks in advance.

I have no idea what unLZ-GBA is but...

The sprites look to be different sizes so I'm not sure you could even slap them in anyway.

Following photoshop, it is 1 pixel taller, because of the modified hair in the 3rd game. Will that affect in anyway?

EDIT: is one pixel wider to the left and 2 pixels to the right*

It would be a totally different sheet; the sprites are totally different.

As for advice... Sorry, I got nothing. I'll take a look tomorrow for you in Tile Molester.

Id appreciate it Dazz. Honestly I'm more concerned on the replacement method than the ripping itself. I got lots of patience so I dont mind doing it by screen capture.

Nah, xaimill, what Mighty Jetters was getting at was that we do have a forum section where you can post your own model creations, you may even get feedback and tips there!

A large quantity of the graphics are visible in Tile Molester; However, I don't know the game, and since I can't see the palettes, I can't tell for sure what is what. I've never played it, so...

Take a look into Tile Molester, and read up some tutorials on using it with GBA; It's been so long since I last did it, I forget how to do the whole palette thing...

Holy Sumlight xD I saw this a bit too late didn't I? Hahaha I shall check soon now that I graduated and only have work. If possiblex I'll stride along and see what I find.

As for the model, well, it gave me rigging problems so I honestly dropped the project altogether in frustration lol

Also, Dazz, I recommend you the game. It needs patch and whatnot with the solar sensor thing, PM me if interested. The game's quite cool and interesting. The second game even better with the wide array of weapons besides the gun.

Well you're in luck in that Boktai 2 and 3 have the same sprite format and Django and Sabata share the same sheet so at its easiest it would be as simple as pasting the sprite file from Boktai 3 into some free space in Boktai 2 and then repointing the Django sprite to use that.
Boktai 3 Django Sprite File:

For me free space was at 0x08d8f8c0
and to repoint it I wrote 00247F38 to 08b47a50
or you could apply this patch
http://ge.tt/8NaoaTr/v/1?c?c
This works for the most part

Only issue is that the animations are in the wrong order,

So someone would have to reorder the 400+ animations so that they make sense which seems like it would be too tedious and time consuming for anyone to want to do.
edit: broke the pics somehow

I will look into that during the weekend, thank you!
However, you lost me at 0x08d8f8c0... seems imma have to take a personal course into that sort of coding. Yay... xD
As for the animations well... i believe it'll be worth it, im a very monotonous person, I can soend hours doing repeatetive things without annoyment, and iunno what the games have that I keep replaying them every now and then so, i wont mind at all as long as I have Boktai 3 django and sabata on the other games Heart

It is frustrating to drop the project..yes even I have worked on similar project but was not successful..
