History of TSR?
#16
I don't remember a lot of things but I think I joined Pixeltendo when it was still hosted at fireball20xl. I remember it having a coins system, and nothing else. I wasn't that involved with the community back then. Maybe Project Prism was still in full throttle, but my memory is cloudy. I remember being afraid of posting there due to the harsh environment.

Jordan had the Stop Posting avatar.

I'll eventually write a few pages about the history of tSR to my very poor memory, but right now isn't the time. Just wanted to clear that one up.

Grand scheme of things is that it used to host very few sheets on Fireball20xl, Psyguy got mad because I didn't like him, so I told him to fuck himself and hosted it myself, which allowed us to expand dramatically. People were dicks on Pixeltendo and I was fed up of being seen as admin of dicks, so I made tSR Community instead, and now some of those dicks don't like tSR Community. So I guess it worked, really.
Tsunami Bomb - The Simple Truth
We could run away
Leave behind anything paper
Not knowing where we're going to stay
When there's no Mondays

You're part of me, it's so easy to see the simple truth
When I'm in your arms, I feel safe from harm and sorrow too
You're part of me, it's so easy to see the simple truth
But most of all, nothing couldn't be solved when I'm with you

Bacon started Ninsprites in... 2001, I think? He and Teeks (Formerly Toadkarter) had their own little site going up. I was just getting into spriting, submitting stuff to TSGK and Deek n Dazz, and Psyguy's site when he was doing sprite comics.
Ninsprites's aesthetic was really cool. It focused on Nintendo, updated daily, had a cool icon scheme going, etc. so I started submitting. Pixeltendo followed, and the forums were modded by Bacon, his friend Rogultgot, and JonEx. Teeks kind of drifted off (And now runs Adamant Ditto with former members Meta, Joshr, and, from time to time, Silverbolt), and the site got bigger.
After a few years and a few expansions, including accepting stuff other than Nintendo, Bacon got sick of running the site. He gave it to Badassbill, who, while well-intentioned, didn't really do anything with the site for about a year or so.
While BAB was in charge, Dazz joined and soon had a falling out with Deek. BAB gave Dazz the site, the Ninsprites loyalists (Rog and a few others) threw a shit fit, which eventually led to the closing of Pixeltendo and the rehaul of the site.

I think that's the highlight reel.

I've been mostly a recent lurker so I can't add much, but let me just say there was an era where TSR consisted of everyone spriting hipsters, "ironically" awful giant flashy signatures, and lots of injokes about babbies.

by spriting hipsters do you mean people like 1up actually designing dudes who wore actual clothes, and not ridiculous anime garbage or megaman fan characters
just kind of curious

And I was there! And you young folks don't go getting the wrong idea. At one time Pixeltendo was a great place and a lot of fun.

and basically who cares if you were there, really

don't get me wrong, but being one of the first members isn't worthy of any merit imo. It is cool for historical reasons, but in the end, it boils down to being as annoying as those 'first!' posts in YT videos. My two cents though.

Eh true. It evolved into my gimmick though. You know old Koopaul and stuff.

I originally did it because when all the original people who loved and respected me went away, they were replaced by new people (you guys) who had no respect for me. It was like all of that hard work was for nothing.

All these noobs eventually became mods and ran the place! I'm a relic who never got anywhere all these years. Cry

Eventually I got respect again, but what's the point? You'll all go away and new people will replace you and hate me and the cycle continues until I die!

So any given chance I tell the tale, remind people:

Koopaul 2025: "there was once this guy named Gors who was an admin and-"

I can't remember much, my memory has never been to well.
Since this topic is now about personal tSR histories...
Let me retell mine once more.

When I first stumbled upon tSR, it was on fireball20xl, that's all I remember. I don't even know what I was looking for back then. It was before I discovered internet communities and all that, back when I was making expert Zelda games with Zelda Classic thingy. Back when I used a lense and a GameBoy to see how Zelda: LA sprites looked so I could make a knock-off.
No wait, that was even before I got to use Zelda Classic. I think.
Either way, I joined PT in late 2006. I think it was when the Mimiga fad was going. That was something I actually liked, the sprite fads were mostly everyone would do the same style and people weren't complete assholes about people spriting in game styles. Somethine I feel people sometimes forget; many of us were at a point where we did it, and it was okay. All the M&L sprites... most of them completely out of style, but it was fun. Buuut I'm trailing off.
I've never een really active. There were many phases where I would hardly post or browse at all for months. Attitudes got really harsh at PT and everything seemed to be out of any control and it was just no fun being there unless you were in the group of people bashing everything. Well, that was the impression I had. So when tSR started its own forum, I immediately settled over and left PT.
Still not being very active, I browsed a few parts regularly, made a few posts at times, nothing special. When tSR started to tag sheets with submitters, I joined in on the quest to tag all the existing sheets...
That's were I started to become a more integrated part of the website, I guess. it opened the doors for me to join in as a fighter against sheet errors in late 2010 / early 2011. I started doing that more and more and it appeared to be okay, so I kept doing it. Now, I am a mod. Hello world.

I could explain some things in more detail, like tSR chat and my ripping historia. However, time for breakfast. The second.
