I think they're suggesting 3DS Max and Blender because they have more features that you can use to fix your models, either that or they're saying that they'd only be able to help you if you had one of those since they don't use Misfit Model 3D or Milkshape.
I couldn't help you at all either since the only program I really know how to use is Cinema 4D Studio.
Does Misfit Model 3D actually have the ability to fix your models the way you need to though? There is another TSR member who is good with it I think so if it's technically possible then I can ask him to look at this thread.

They both don't have it because they're not made for actual modelling.
Atleast not for advanced modelling.

And also, can I have your copy of 3D Object Converter? Because I'm not going to pay to export something.
nvm

So I have to fix ALL of these in order for them to be uploaded...?

Basicly... Yes. But it's mostly your own fault because you ignored what I said.
To make matters even worse, you have to rerip the welded rips.

I don't think he ignored you, he either thought he fixed it or was unable to fix it because of not having the right program for the job.
What I would do is to just try to fix one, and then wait and see if Peardian the TMR mod thinks it's proper before you try to fix them all.

Who else gonna be like "AAAAH THESE AREN'T WELDED THESE SUCK THE RIPPER SHOULD BE ASHAMED"? I mean seriously.

Welding them will probably make them better for the end user to use, and we want your models to be as nice as possible for TMR.
Believe me, I know how annoying it is to have to keep fixing something, but once you finally get it right, and you see your shiny new rip on the site that you put everything into, it's definitely worth the trouble.
Again I wish I could help. Pear should be going on an uploading spree again pretty soon, he's just been sick with a stomach virus, like he had two weeks ago, which is why he hasn't been around as much for those who think he might be slacking or avoiding TMR.

Okay, here's what I'm doing. Don't ask why I'm using Xatu as an example, I just ripped him from Pokemon Channel and he's what I got right now.

After welding vertices:

I don't see what the problem is. Is this only in Misfit Model 3D?

I was going to check the models themselves tomorrow, but I felt I should do it now before the current discussion gets worse.

@lemurboy12: First off, I'm glad to see a new model ripper has arrived. I can't say I've ever heard of Misfit Model 3D, but it should be fine to use as long as it exports properly. You don't have to use 3DS Max or Blender or anything if you don't want to, as long as you have something that works. The only program you should specifically not use is Milkshape, because its exports are terrible.

As far as the normal welding goes, what you've demonstrated with Xatu is fine. The models are in an acceptible state from what I can see. In fact, some of the models on the site are worse off as far as normals go, because either that's how they're store in the game (Sonic Generations, Super Mario Galaxy) or the export process to get them removes the normals (probably half of all rigged Wii models on the site).

Back on the subject of modeling programs, if you're really interested in ripping models, it would benefit you to learn how to use 3DS Max, because of the wide array of custom scripts that people have made for it that let you import game-specific model formats. Of course, that's something you should do only if you want to, and not because someone is telling you to.

Now, as for the models themselves, they're fine for the most part. Though, I will say that the outdated links are tripping me up. Mind replacing the links to each model with the most recent version? I wrote two paragraphs on how to fix Patrick, before realizing you already fixed him. Tongue

@thegameexplorer: Please stop harassing him over what program he uses. Your behavior in this thread is somewhat rude, and it is not helping things.

As far as I know Vertex welding will actually affect the geometry to make it look smoother while normal welding changes the way light shines on the surface of the geometry.

So... when will these be uploaded?

Peardian's been spending time with his family before they have to leave, so he will be back later this week most likely.
