Textures/materials missing when importing ripped models in 3DS Max
#1
I hate to make a thread like this, but I'm running slim on options here...
I'm using 3DS Max 2010 to view/edit/etc models. In specific, I usually end up importing .DAE's, and pretty much everything I download from the Resource here looks like this:

(Koopa from Mario Party 9, by the way.)

All white, no textures! As it would seem, there's also no UV Mapping or materials... Am I importing these incorrectly, or what?
I'm assuming this is something easy to fix, I'm just out of the loop not having used 3DS Max in some time. Thanks in advance.

there are some fixes:
if rigged:
1) use noesis
2) make sure importing options are all correct, ie import bones, animations, materials, etc
3) apply a material and find the textures until it works.
if not rigged:
1) use noesis
2) make sure you got the right file/didnt interrupt a download prematurely
3) import .obj if there is a .mtl file, should apply materials

what i do:

use noesis.
select .DAE model
export as .fbx (better compatibility)
import .fbx

Or, your plugin sucks donkey ass and you need to a new one. Get ColladaMax if you haven't already.

ColladaMax is what I always use when importing .DAE.

Thanks very much for referring me to Noesis - I'm able to import models successfully with UV mapping, after exporting in .fbx/.obj and reimporting to Max then applying textures. Regardless, I'm still stumped as to why importing .DAE's to Max yielded blank models, but ah well.

.DAEs generally do not have material files. i believe there is an option in 3ds max to export with materials, but do what i do:

export as fbx
use noesis
export fbx as DAE
.DAE now has materials
