Allow myself to...

...introduce myself.

So there's no stickied "introduce yourself" thread here, eh? I don't get out much, so maybe lots of fora do it this way and I just never knew!

Er, anyway! Moniker's Reichu. New to the spriting scene, but I was part of the video game music ripping scene a few years back... for whatever that's worth. (I don't expect any of you to overlap with that particular group -- but, hey, you never know.) I go through a lot of phases and cycling when it comes to hobbies.

In this recent phase of mine, I remembered how much I adored that quirky, notoriously unpolished little PSX RPG from SquareSoft, SaGa Frontier, and I started playing it again. Soon enough, I was looking online for sprites -- and, to my surprise, I could only find the small handful of sheets that were hosted here! So I decided that, while I'm in a Frontier mood, I'd learn a little bit about how sprites are stored in PSX games ( Cry ), make some sprite sheets, and get whatever I polish off archived for other fans.

I can't guarantee I'll stick around long enough to evolve into a tSR old-timer, but I hope I'm of some use to the community while I'm here!

Hi Reichu, welcome to the Resource! Don't worry, even if you only sprite a tiny bit, every sheet counts! If you need any help in a specific area don't hesitate to ask around.

Same here. Just when I think I've decided on something, something else comes up and I scrap everything else. Although I think sprite ripping will stay with me for quite a while, it's both fun and educating.

Welcome aboard, Reichu! At least you found something that doesn't have enough rips yet, (Because everything I try to is already done, so I just stick to customs! xD) it'll make the site that much more complete.

The vg music ripping scene is cool too, if you ask me. There's no way I would have been able to record high quality MP3s of some of the tracks that I wanted from my favorites games, at least with the equipment I had, so it was always cool to bump into quality rips of the songs I wanted to listen to while drawing stuff on paper. Indeed, I've been quietly compiling a bounty of torturous questions...

It's definitely much more involved that I had imagined: all the reverse-engineering and organization and precision work. Sometimes it feels like a big waste of time, but then I think, "it's like a puzzle (and few better ways to waste time)". I mean... look at these horrible things!

Hey... maybe you should become a SaGa fan. Wink

Very much so. Quality game music rips are an IMO precious and often undervalued effort. Even though I don't currently participate in the community -- not that I really can, with my old recording setup deceased and never replaced -- I'm still listening to plenty of the songs I have courtesy of my own or other "rippers"' efforts.

Drawing stuff? An artist type?

I'll see if I can get my hands on a confetti cannon this week. Maybe some more cake too, we're starting to run out.
