Ripping model animations from Sonic Generations?
#1
Exclamation
Heyy guys,

I've ripped some SG models and their rigs to 3DS MAX and Blender.

Does anyone know how I import character animations to either 3DS MAX or Blender so I can convert them to a more popular format such as .BVH?

Okay, 1: .BVH isn't Very popular......
Okay, 2: You would have to convert the Animations to an Importable format... Maybe Like PSA.

But how? I need specifics such as import script links etc...

I haven't a clue what the methodology is.

Read my tutorial (Generations is in .BRRES format, right?) and when you get to the part about exporting the models, make sure the "Animations" drop down is set to .PSA. And there you should have all the animations! Smile

I take it .brres is the Wii compression for mesh and animation data.
Generations is in the .HVK format unfortunately Cry As it is built with the Havok engine. Google does not have the answer I'm looking for Embarassed Tongue

There was someone on the Sonic Retro forums that was working on an exporter for the animations. Not sure what the progress is on that yet, though...

And it's Sonic Colours that uses the BRRES format, not Generations (which uses more or less the same format as Unleashed).

If you want to get started on ripping animations from SG, you need Havok sdk and the sonic generations *.ar files. Extract these files and you'll get a *.MODEL file and some strange other file formats. You can then try opening these files with Havok. If that doesn't work, then you can ask a plugin for 3DS MAX from XxSuperShadicxX on youtube.
