Occupy Wall Street
#31
Well it looks like this is going global now since I'm hearing cities in Europe are having "occupy _____" protests.

Willing to bet my two cents one government is going to fall to the people because of these protests.

I walk past the original one in NYC every day and honestly, it really just looks like a bunch of bums who don't know why they're there and so far, all they have accomplished is making my return commute longer and more irritating.

I don't disagree with their overall message but just saying "corporate greed sucks" isn't enough to cause change.

Sad part of it is no one is going to go in depth with their argument.

All they're saying is that "we have no jobs when the government promised us that" and "Corporations are ruining everything" when they don't back they're opinion up. Kind of obvious why the american government won't listen.

One of the specific protests has a rough draft of a list of grievances and demands; let me see if I can dig it up.
EDIT: http://occupywallst.org/forum/proposed-l...add-so-th/
I guess it became generalized throughout all of the protests, but was kick-started by a specific one.

I didn't know that list existed - I think it's the first formal outline I've seen thus far but at least they're heading in the right direction with some specifics. Thanks for the link.

I love how almost no big company has a say in this, or are trying to mock the protests as "a bunch of hipsters who just want to cause a stir".

It's like it's -confirming- that everything that the movement is fighting for is true.

Support our troops, right?? (I've heard that Scott Olsen, the veteran critically wounded by police for his peaceful protesting, was given a "less then honorable" discharge from the military.)

Also, I like that you practically have to snoop around non-US news sources to find articles that aren't smelly hippies refuse to get jobs news at 11.

ALSO I like what I found for US requests here: http://www.google.com/transparencyreport...trequests/
hmm...

Bumping because I don't care and this is relevant.

You've all probably seen this by now. According to various sources like /b/ and you tube the officer using the pepper spray was Lt. John Pike.

He's been suspended and possibly faces losing his job at this point. And side from getting a bunch of hate mail from various people on the internet. This is good enough for that sick asshole and it makes me wonder how the protesters can stay this peaceful to crap like this.

My mum just went to NewYork and spoke to some of the protesters.
Apparently they'd set up mutiple stations with different purposes, they had an outdoor library filled with books on politics and the government but most of the books were destroyed when the police used hoses to clear the premises (Apparently a lot of laptops and other electrical equipment was also destroyed)

Anyway, they were giving away the destroyed books to raise awareness and my mum brought me one back, it's pretty badly damaged and it says ''OWSL (Occupy Wall Street Library), Do not remove.'' And it has a bunch of the protestors names written inside the front cover. She also brought me back a copy of The Occupy Wallstreet Journal.
this is a sig
