You completely miss the point in Smash Bros if you find that roster acceptable.
and you completley misread the name, lol

Smash Flash is still about Smash Bros dummy. Something you made a travesty of.

I'm not really an anime fan, so those don't appeal to me. And I've always had a thing against fan character insertion.
As fr the stages, they seem pretty good, if not rushed in the spriting phase. I'd have to see them in action for a real verdict though. They might all play the same.

I tried the demo.

The gameplay is decent, doesn't really make up for all of the other problems though.

Okay, let's get a few things straight:

1) SSF2 is not SSF1 2.0 (though we really should change the name)

I will say that SSF1 could have been much, much, much better than it was, but comparing this to SSF1 is like comparing Metal Gear Solid to Metal Gear. This game is so much better than the original that you wouldn't realize it was made by the same person. Don't take my word for it, though: play one of the demos. The newest one should be out later tonight or tomorrow night, but if you don't feel like waiting, you can play v0.2b right on the site! (www.mcleodgaming.com, but I'm only posting it so you know where the demo is, not to advertize).

2) Sprites are subject to change

I know some of the sprites aren't exactly stellar, but believe me, they've changed more times than Brawl's release date, and we haven't stopped yet. I know this is an ipse-dixitism, but please trust in that we won't stop until the sprites are as top-notch as we can get them.

3) Expansions make the roster unimportant

Okay, I totally agree with you guys on the roster. It's stupid. No FE reps but 4 fan characters. Dumb. HOWEVER, since this game will have downloadable characters (you can have up to 10 at a time) and they'll be almost 100% functional (the only thing that'd really be missing is a solid place in the story). Expansions aren't limited, either; as long as there are animations made for a character, it will be made. You don't have to play with just the in-game roster!

4) Tons of stages, many of them awesome

I know, more opinions, but take a look at our new battlefield.
We have more than 60 in the works, and that's after being picky. Just wait 'till you see the finished Galaxy Tours...

5) The dojo is not official

It's fan-run and about as reliable as the wiki. The only thing Cleod9 has ever done for it is post the link on his site.

6) It's not finished yet

Far from it, too. He'll be adding mountain of items, at least 40 stages, a stage builder mode, a complete story mode, online mode (eventually), thousands of trophies, extented Wii playablity (it works right now if you have a USB keyboard), and much, much more.

I know you guys have no clue who I am and you probably don't have a very high opinion of me right now, but all I ask is that you guys give SSF2 a chance to make up for SSF1. Don't judge it as SSF1's sequel, but as it's own game! What have you got to lose by playing the demos? Anyway, sorry for the intrusion and thanks for not locking yet.

EDIT: the new demo is due out tomorrow, and it has a lot of fixes.

hunh?

The new battlefield just posted is pretty good but honestly the other stages don't look good.

oh come on. weve got so many stages that i dont think a couple crappy stages really matters. I will admit some of the stages arent so good, ex: congo jungle, jungle japes, and uhh....well thats all i have in mind actually. But pirate ship is great, along with BF, yoshis island, hyrule temple, Galexy tours is going to be amazing, Corneria is simple, but good..... idk i guess opinions?

Anyways your all being pretty stubborn. "it sucks" thanks for the C+C.

and for the love of god, "I see naruto...automatic fail" is getting a teeny but old.

Galaxy Tours shows some potential,
Corneria looks okay
The stage for battle of origin looks okay but the R/S/E sprites that pop up don't fit,
Yoshi's island looks okay,
Peah's Castle looks okay.

The rest are pretty bad

Yes it is ignorant but so far no one has made a post like that.

We know you aren't perfect but seriously, they are all different styles. Some of the animations looks backwards. One of Diddy Kong's animations look JPEG [Image: diddy_spinkick.gif]
Snake claims to be 100% completed but he has not animations other than the rocket and the aux thing.
All of these problems need to be fixed before the game is completed.

I give you props for doing something I'll never be able to do in making your own game. And I understand how difficult it can be to get good sprites for a project. The SSB sprite project here has been going for about 2 years and we've seen only 2 (?) sheets finished. It's great that you can see the flaws and work on them, but at the same time quantity over quality seems to be seeping into the game. Don't worry about the amount of stages and characters you have. Worry about how good they look. Make the person playing the game sit back and stare at the Hyrule Temple and think "Wow."
I'm not going to blast the sprites you're using because you didn't make them, and I'm not good enough to finish even one sheet, let alone dozens in a single style. If you're willing to make the game a quality game and take your time and be true to the source material (aka no fan characters) then I'm sure that several people here will be willing to help you.
Hell, the SSB and SSB Fantasy projects would climb on board if the quality was good enough, I'm sure.
I'm not telling you to re-haul your game, but at least try to push the boundaries of the engine you're using and impress the hell out of us.

You're right Tonberry2k, the quality is what counts, not the quantity. I could explain why some things are the way they are with the game, but you don't want to hear excuses. You want to see results. The stages released on the dojo really aren't the best ones we have out there (except Galaxy Tours, which is still not finished). Anyway, I suppose it's our fault for posting here prematurely (mostly mine, since I prompted it), but I suppose we just aren't ready yet.

We are still open to C+C and will answer questions, though.

And to those complaining about the roster: You don't know how many times we've tried to give fan characters the boot, the creator just won't budge on it. Anime, I can assume, would be the same.

I beg to differ.

I haven't commented on the gamepley because the game does not look appealing enough to bother playing.

and Cleod said that hes doing all the snake animations himself which is why he doesnt need them in hte archieve.

The only character I made 100% custom, is Ness. and im happy with how he came out. Im editing Bowser, and a couple other people though.

Well then, the fact is you've got a gaming goblin of a problem. The fact that your creator is keeping it personal means that he can ultimately drag this project down into hell and ruin it before it began. Sounds like the case actually.

Just to let you know, I won't play this game. Ever. Here's why : Fancharacters, Anime Characters, Mixed sprite styles and awful stages.

That is an extremely old JPGed animation with crappy motion blurs that wont get into the game and has been replaced by now. Not all the animations in the archives are the ones that will get used. On Snakes archive page, it says,"I know you see no animations here but he's done, you'll see the results when the game comes out." ?Unknown?'s the one who animated him. Think about the game as a game. Not a sprite gallery.
