Ripping Turbografx and PC Engine sprites
#1

I've been looking around for tutorials on ripping sprites from the first four Ys games on systems other than SNES, but unfortunately the systems are too obscure to get as much attention as SNES and I don't know if it has nearly as many resources for ripping sprites from them.

Does anyone know good emulators or tools for ripping from these? Kind of a shot in the dark, just wondering.

Tool-wise, the latest version of YY-CHR supports both setups for the PC-Engine (8x8 tiles and 16x16 sprites, which not many programs are capable of). You can get it here: http://www.geocities.jp/yy_6502/

Unfortunately I haven't figured out the palette yet.
Doofenshmirtz: This is a little bit awkward but have you seen my escape jet keys? (Perry nods) What, you have? Well that's great! So where are they? (Perry looks away) You won't tell me? Is this because you don't speak or are you just being a jerk?

I suggest Magic Engine, it has Layering capabilities. Only downside is that you have to pay for the Emulator; it can be downloaded for free but there is a time limit for each session on the free version.

That's how I was able to rip Dyna from The Dynastic Hero

Thanks both of you, both resources are proving very useful. I haven't tested the first one yet for Ys IV, but the emulator works too, so if I can't work with the tiles I'll be able to go the much harder route of piecing everything together through screenshots.

I also found out that the Magic Engine has both Turbo AND Slow options. I'm in heaven.
