Gone and back

Okay, I didn't quite stay long enough for people to get to know me, but I've been around before, and vanished after getting into college completely ate my free time. (Oh, damn you, calculus!)

But here I am, after haven't sprited shit after a good time, with an attempt that hopefuly you pros will help me improve. Here it goes:

That's pretty much all I had time to work on lately, sorry for the minimalistic post. And please don't be so harsh on me Very Sad remember I'm still the new guy. (JK, criticize at will)

right now you're teyinbg to cram too many details into a really small area, reducing the overall readbility. the low contrast between shades addss to the poor readbility as well.

for a sprite of that size, work with fewer shades of each color and priorize the key elements of its desing, if posible make them stands by shading rather than with random dots here and there.

I see... I thought it had poor readbility as well, but didn't quite know how to improve it. I don't really get how to sprite the folds of her clothes, do you have any references you could point me to?

I'll try to work on increasing contrast, I get that complaint quite often about my work, thanks, bro!

I was actually wondering where you went when i found that edit i made for you when cleaning my hard drive!

But honestly i don't think you need to worry too awfully much about the folds in such a small sprite

Oh, yeah, I remember you, still I'm pretty sure you had a whole other username back there.

I've been doing some thinking here, would it be too strange if I just stuck solid blackish outlines into the sprite?

Do you guys happen to know any game which sprite style is similar to the one in my work, so I could get a look at it?

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure what the critique paradigm of this forum is and whether written criticism is preferred over visual edits or vice versa. That said, here's a few readability edits:

The most obvious one is the addition of selective outlining. Other things include smoothing over the folds and minor shading changes in the legs, as well as cutting out some noise from the hair. I didn't add a single color to the pallete except the darkest shade on the white clothes.

Alright, here's my first attempt on improving contrast and readbility, using outlines and better (hopefuly) shading.

Here it goes:

So, how is it?

End of hair seems a bit spiky; such attention to detail doesn't help represent the flow of hair, if you know what I mean. The single pixel of transparency in the middle of the sprite isn't a problem but I generally get rid of them just to make things easier. Some outlines on the boos are too strong and don't use selout enough, and the girl's right hand seems slightly rectangular with the outlining.

One major issue is how the girl's left leg bends into a backwards knee- it looks really uncomfortable when scrutinized.

Right, I tried going for your tips, and here's the result:

Worked on the hair spikeness, tried to use more selout overall and hopefully bended her knee right. I just didn't remove the lone transparency pixel 'cause I couldn't find a way to do that without making her buttocks look boxy.

Also, anatomy-wise and posture-wise, is it okay?

her left tit is too big, he shadow should be moved to our right some more

(i don't really have any other crit at the moment, it looks good)

the placement of the legs(and by extension the hips) seems odd to me. the highlight though is what causes the left breast to look smaller than the right one.

also, remember that selout works best on fixed backgrounds. you dont really need to selout everything nor it makes your pixel instantly a piece of quality and skill.

tried to fix the legs and hips, worked on the neck length, some colors, you're free to check it.(just noticed you could also give a small outline around the left side of the face to add an even more contrast and readbility to the face.

also a smaller head would give it a more serious look, though this might mean scrapping the facial features altogether (think Castlevania for example)
