Sega admits Sonic is falling
#46
no the reason I thought it was bad was
because its a 3-D make of old sprite games,
and this one had all the character's from sprite
games that I enjoyed and usually they would
ruin them by making them 3-D

that's retarded reasoning, it's not a remake or a sequel, it's a completely different series.
besides, Super Mario 64 and Zelda: Majora's Mask are in the series of two games that started out as sprite games (like MANY games) and are easily the two best installments of the two series. edit: and they're both 3D games

also, stop typing in stanzas please. you're not a poet

I'm sorry but, TYVON's got a point, you were saying that since it's 3D it's automatically bad, there's no "between the lines" or anything with what you just said

Wow that was dumb.

Making something 3D isn't bad. Sometimes games REALLY shouldn't be made 3D (Metal Slug) but company's want quick cash and thus make a cheap 3D pile of crap. But if, somehow, a good 3D Metal Slug game was made I wouldn't dislike it just because it was 3D as long as it was a good Metal Slug game.
And that's another point, when making a game 3D the spirit of the game shouldn't be lost. It should still feel like it's part of the series.

Sonic in my eyes is suffering from this. The newer Sonic games sometimes slip into the "this isn't Sonic" territory hurting the game quite badly, aka turning into a wolf, swinging a sword, working with knuckles etc. If your going to change what makes a Sonic game, a Sonic game - why not make it a non-Sonic game?

The 3D Mario games feel like Mario games. Even though I thought Sunshine was rather bad it still felt like a Mario game. Most of the new Sonic games are not only bog-standard platform games (often worse then the later Crash Bandicoot games) but often fail to capture that sense of "this is a Sonic game."

Mario Sunshine and Mario Galaxy both came off as lazy to me, personally. Mario 64 was wonderful, but Sunshine and Galaxy didn't feel like "Mario games."

How is Sonic working with Knuckles not in the 'spirit' of Sonic games? Knuckles was never really Sonic's diehard enemy.

Its true that SEGA is making the Sonic games feel like they arent Sonic games. I think, personally, it started with Heroes, where you have to switch every 5 seconds to another member to fly over a hole or something. Its actually alot better to play with one character, and I think if they designed the game so you only play as Sonic on some levels(like in SA2B), it wouldve been alot better.

Shadow the Hedgehog also continued the decline, with the gun, emoness and adding more characters. Actually, all the new Sonic games recently have been adding in pointless characters that destroy the cast. If they kept 7 characters they wouldve been okay. Lets say:
1)Sonic
2)Tails
3)Knuckles
4)Dr. Robotnik/Dr.Eggman
5)Amy
6)Metal Sonic
7)Shadow(but keep him mysterious and dark, his initial appearance in SA2B)

They dont need the spin-off junk either. Why would he get on a air-board if he can run fast in the first place? Or swords if he can spindash into his enemies? SEGA needs to make platforming games, not RPGS. I like the Original Sonic games, the Sonic Advance series, and the Sonic Adventure series. Not everything else.Sick

Yeah, I but I think Mario has never been a platforming type of character. Hes made for all type of games. Sonic however...

What? Mario hasn't been a platforming character, the guy that showed how platforming should be done in both 2D and 3D.

you're stupid, go play any mario game before the N64, and then go play Super Mario 64

What I meant to say was, I dont view Mario as a platforming type of character with the type of games hes in.

I don't see what makes Mario's design multi-genre and Sonic's design only platform.
Thanked by:

it's only that Mario has had more multi genre games, Sonic hasn't had as many as Mario, but that doesn't make it any different. I don't see people complaining about Mario being in a go kart, or having a golf club, or having a tennis racket, kicking a soccerball, swinging a bat, etc.
