The trick is to /write/ characters that you like. At the very least, if you're going to do crossover BS; have characters that would make sense. A hypothetical game with a Sonic Crash Bandicoot crossover would make some kind of sense because of how the characters are designed and the setting they're normally in. What do gothic versions of Touhou, Sonic, and Megaman X have in common? Pretty much nothing. What reasons would they have to interact with each other? Not a whole lot.

As for your story; don't think you're so special; no one is going to steal your story. And considering your groundwork for the story is a bunch of existing franchises; I struggle to believe your plot will be entirely original.

Jeeze, I know it's not going to be a hundred percent original, we're at the point in time where it's rather impossible to make something entirely new. The only thing that can make it fairly new is how it's handeled.

When I first started this project, I wasn't expecting it to be received as the most oh so perfect project, that's insane and unlreaistic, but I didn't think it would wind up being THIS hated. What do you expect me to do? Copy everyone else and stick to common stuff? Or do you want me to try and be more creative? You're not really giving me much helps at all in that regards guys. All you're doing is treating this like it's the most unholyist thing ever, like Twilight.(Which is one of most unholyist of things.)

I'm flexable, but I'm NOT going to bend over backwards and break my back. You guys aren't giving constructive critisism, which I can tolorate, it's letting me know of fields that I need to improve in, ect. But all you're really doing is just moaning and complaining "There's style clashing, it's not original, the characters don't make any sense, blah blah blah." and I'm sick of it. If you guys hate my guts that much for coming up with something you think is one of the most stupidist things ever(Even though there are a LOT worser fan made titles, which don't even TRY to be good.) then just say it that way.

So unless you guys can actually give me something I can actually WORK with, just shut and leave me alone!

You're being overly offended over what you consider "unconstructive" criticism. I hate to break it to you-- but style clashing, lack of originality, and nonsensical charcters is not "moaning and complaining." These are legitimate problems that are being addressed, calmly, and it is nobody's fault but your own for getting upset over not hearing exactly what you want to hear.

FYI, there is no such thing as a point in time in which originality "can't be achieved." Nothing will ever be 100% original, but crossovers involving character universes that don't even fit in with each other is one of the most overplayed things done in fangames.

My advice to you is to handle the fact that maybe something that you are being critiqued for may actually be a problem, learn to take it calmly and not overreact like you're currently doing, and deal with the possibility that something you make may not be well-received.

In other words:

huge, bitter, and imposible to finish alone.

your idea is nowhere near being original. it has been done before and it has been done right(and countless times done wrong). unfortunately what you got to show here is nothing but an extremely early build of something with no exact direction wich leads to believe it has been done for the sake of fapping to the overdone idea of "my favorite characters mashup"

we do not consider it as big fat waste of time. your time is actually your time and you're free to do with it whatever it pleases you to do with it. but you can't expect us to jump out of our chairs for something so bland and unrefined just because it "will" have sonic and megaman and a bunch of tohou characters. if you can manage to work and gather a considerable amount of progress on your own, its a matter of time before people would join you.

you are not being bashed for no aparent reason. if you're sharing this here is to recieve feedback, and feedback has been provided on the reason of what you have shown of this project. you need a title, even if its just a terrible generic title. its some sort of baptism for your project and the very first step to show the direction and the goal you want to reach with it. let it be "multi fushion character brawl" or whatever, it already gives an insignificant amount of substance to your progress -not to mention, isnt like you can change the title as you progress-

It's much easier to plug your ears and go "LALALALALALA NOT LISTENING" than it is to thorougly read criticism and take it from a nonbiased standpoint, but that doesn't mean ignorance is the best option.

And what exactly, do you want me to do about the style clashing problem? I'm not a spriter moder, I can't make a sprite from scratch. And I really doubt anyone would be willing to make me original sprites.

The lack of originality of the other crossover titles, are mostly just simple, ultra bland plots. Not to mention, accompanied by really really horriblely animated and resized sprites, and very poor game mechanics, and the characters barely even operate like they're supposed to.

That's generally the problems with the crossover titles I've seen. Poor backgrounds, or terribly lacking backgrounds, and the sprites aren't even fully colored. Or properly colored. I already mentioned the gameplay mechanics, but still, it plays a major part, as it isn't given the proper care or time to be made into something decent.

I admit, yes, there is style clashing, but what am I supposed to do? I'm just calmy asking, what am I exactly supposed to do about it? It just seems like you guys are saying it's bad, and might as well not even work on the project and work on something entirely different. That's kinda like working to apply for a job to work on car parts and you somehow wind up working as a desk clerk for the place rather than the initial job you signed up for.

The plots and stories for the other crossover titles I've seen, are very bland, and have very nutty and if not stupid plot twists. Not to mention, improper characterzation. Turning certain characters evil for no real apparent reason, not to mention, in regards to the bosses, they don't even properly emulator who or what they're supposed to be.

To simply put it, no real thought or proper creativity was put into those games. So, they flat out stink all the way around.

The title I'm working on, has style clashing yes, but it nearly isn't as bad as the other titles. Not to mention, as you guys had commented on, it has an actual decent engine, and the characters operate the way they should, and not to mention are properly animated and their size hasn't been tampered.(Not to mention still properly colored.) And the backgrounds are actually there, and aren't just some ugly resized image found online or something.(As some of those have very poor backgrounds, like actual photos someone took with a camera.)

As for the plot, I'll give you guys a summery of it, so you guys can properly judge it. Cause I think judging it as a "Same ol stupid non original plot" right off that bat, without even actually seeing, is possibly a hasty conclusion. It's not just some "The villains have joined! And so the heroes have joined as well to stop them!" plot.

That's treating it like all they all hang out in the same world, which they don't. I'll provide a prologue with some pictures here and there.(Not there will most likley be text once in awhile in them.)

-----------------------------------------

Since the beginning of time, there have been a multitude of worlds and realities, each unaware of each other, with no way of reaching each other for the most part. How ever, ever couple thousand of years, a gateway would open between two of these many worlds, and more often than not, a great battle would ensue when these woulds would meet. How ever, cause of this, heroes would meet, and alliances would be made.

Eventually the gateways would eventually link many worlds, to one.

While the hero alliances would last, the villain's would not, as their goals and ideals, would not often mesh with those they thought were of the same state of mind. Each wanting the world for their single desires, while the hero's goals and ideals are very often similar, if not identical. In passing, they would often add their goals and ideals to their's, thus strengthening their fight against evil.

This process would eventually repeat itself over time, the gate ways slowly opening between several worlds, and more frequent. But only really in the sense of warriors fighting to prove themselves in battle, not really gaining or losing anything of value.

With the gateways becomming more frequent, one person in particular, had been watching this entire thing unfold for years, learning about the heros and villains of other worlds, learning how they operate, and while gateways haven't actually been opening up for certain worlds, they weren't less watched.

With the simple fact there was an entire Multiverse that could be taken over, every villain can be satisfied. The army is silently assembled, briefed, and given equipment and enhacnements to help them carry out the deed.

Six warriors of interest are targeted, and pulled from their worlds and plopped into another, for most the change of scenary was severe, others, barely even noticable. The forces are quickly dispurse into the other worlds, while most converge on the unaware warriors.

Now, I'm just asking politely, does this sound feasable, decent, or downright terrible for a crossover plot for a fangame?

How much would you be asking? Minor note, depending on the monitor, Sonic looks purple, and others, blue like he's supposed to. Just saying the color choice kinda changes color from monitor to monitor.

Wait, whh.... you mean Sonic is not supposed to be purple???

Naw, that wasn't serious.
Anyway. What you had in that video seemed pretty seamless (despite style clashing and all that). My only real gripe was a white background instead of a black background, but that was likely just a placeholder anyway. Right?

Oh, and the way Mega Man breathed heavily all the time when standing still felt sort of exaggerated.

What are you making the game in, by the way? If you're making it in Game Maker, you should seriously consider posting about it in the GMC.

As for the style clashes, the big problem is medieval characters meeting Mega Man, who comes from 1XX years into the future. There's a minor problem with characters with head proportions different, but I think the stranqe and unclear time setting is the main problem. You could probably make a more appealing crossover if all characters were from games like Castlevania and Touhouvania. I'd say that the best idea would be to have a medieval setting with characters with near realistic proportions rather than to mix Mega Man and Sonic into the bunch.

By the way...
Quote:Unfortunately, this is not a crossover between Castlevania and Metroid... but it so should be.
I'm pretty sure you'd be able to blend characters like Samus and... Luke Skywalker [from Super Star Wars]... and other space heroes (sorry, I don't play games, I just make them, so I have no good name suggestions) into the game. Dracula getting revived by the Space Pirates in year 3684 to rain destruction over the entire galaxy, perhaps? And then the entire game is set in a gigantic gothic castle filled with high-tech stuff every here and there... for instance, those gigant armors from the RPG Castlevanias could be edited to look like giant robots, and there should be motorized elevators and stuff with lots of shiny gears and pipes in the background. Imagine! You could put Clock Tower-like levels pretty friggin' anywhere.

Just saying. You seriously should consider that.

Uh, bro, you got this COMPLETELY in reverse. The setting of each separate character doesn't matter if the story is written well, but if the actual graphic style doesn't match, it won't look right no matter how hard you try.
