First attempt at SNES Sparkster styled sprite
#31
Your character is badly defined. Sparkster and his enemies use their color scheme to their advantage, so you always could figure where are their hands, or where are their feet, arms, waist, etc at any moment, no matter what move or animation they are doing at that moment. Also, they have thin limbs and exagerated feet and hands.
Your character uses orange as it's main color, but also uses it to it's hand and feet, which makes them blend with the body at first sight. It's thick limbs makes also difficult to figure where the different parts of it's body begins and ends, and it's weird leg stance makes it's legs look as if they were broken.
The torso is also badly defined, as it looks like a rectangle w/o any clear areas like chest, waist and shoulders as in sparkster and his enemies's case.

That's why I told you to examine the game sprites and then compare your own sprite with them.

I suggest you to take a look at the ripped Sparkster game sprites found in the site's main page and study them so could applly the needed changes to your character: http://www.spriters-resource.com/snes/sp...index.html

And I haven't been? Blank

judging from what you have done so far, no.

And you're help wasn't as helpful as you would think it to be.

Baggy clothes: They obscure everything. That and Cat's feet don't entirely lay flat on the ground. AND SORRY FOR USING CORRECT BODY ANATOMY! JEEZ!
Look I don't need help with the SHAPE of the sprite (there are a few things that I noticed that need work anyhow like making a simple enough base to check and see if I got the arms and rest of the body right). The SHADING and HOW IT IS SHADED is what I want critique on here. It's all of you guys thinking it's not in the style of the sprite at all because it doesn't fit the SHAPE of the style when the only thing that I wanted to figure out how to do is the SHADING style. Everything else you're telling me is irrelevant to what I WANT to get done! T_T

Covering your ears and stomping on the ground because people isn't having the opinions you wanted them to have is always a dick move.
Good day.

Look I'm sorry if I sound a little ticked off. I just don't like it when people tell me to CHANGE how the character I took the time to design looks JUST for them.

Ok. I would have expected something like how I would fix that after being told it doesn't look like the game's style. So HOW DO I FIX?

Fine... I get I get! I'll see what I can do. And I know Metaru's trying to help and all but can he stop being such a prick about it? That's mostly why I'm a little ticked off.
Edit: I'd thought I'd mention this. His fur color is red and yellow. Don't know where you people are getting orange at. :/

This is yellowWink, this is orangeSmile. Your character's color palette is more tilted to the orange spectrum than to the yellow one.
Have you considered giving white gloves and (non red or yellow) colored shoes to your sprite? As I said before, nobody in Sparkstar's games walks around barefooted.
*edit* Goddamn typos.

*points at avy* That was his earlier design before I changed the Jacket and pants. Those shoes he's wearing in that are brown and black with yellow buckles.
He's also wearing gloves that are gray. Also thanks for pointing out the orange/yellow thing. I seem to have a hard time getting a good yellow pallet and it turns out to look more orange.
As for the shoes issue... I wanted to try out having my character using no shoes because it would save me the trouble of having to figure out a good replacement for brown. >.< (Which is usually a dark red)

Read your own posts trough this thread. On them, you basically say that:

- You want to make a character mimicing Sparkster's style.
- But you don't want to abide to Sparkster's graphic style and try to weasel your way out of doing it.
- And the character STILL must be accepted as in Sparkster's style despite not looking at all like that.

Sparkster is a cartoony animal, your character looks like a Furry. Is that simple.

Hmm... It's true that Sparkster is a cartoony animal and my character's design is a Furry. I've also been known to over detail things quite often so that may be a problem here as well. Right now I'm tweaking things so that the wire frame thing that I started with will actually get me started in the right direction this time.
Just out of question, isn't a cartoony animal also a furry? Blank

Holy shit I don't even know where to start with you
Give yourself some credit, guy you're the first person to make me want to write up a textwall post in.. what, 3 months now?
seriously
2 thumbs up to you on that one

I clicked on this thread because it's been floating around the top of SD for awhile now, which led me to believe there might be something worthwhile in here. Was I right? Not even remotely close, no. Pull your head out of your ass, take the earplugs out, stop crying and screaming and backpedalling out of actually doing any work here. So many people like you come to tsr so often at this point that it's just boring to watch at this point. You all bury threads that contain sprites and pixel art made by people who ACTUALLY have talent and who would ACTUALLY listen to what's being said and make use of it. Now, I'll give you /some/ credit for being slightly more competent than most of them(if only for your ability to comprehend the english language) but that's all you're going to get. You, and hundreds of whiny sensitive babies come to this forum week after week, month after month, (and I think it's actually been long enough that I can say this one now) year after year expecting nothing but praise and asslickery for your sprites, which, 10 times out of 10 turn out being extremely mediocre. Now, other communities give "critique" like this, and I understand that.

But TSR isn't those forums. TSR will never be those forums. TSR isn't a place where people cover their opinions, or the facts in this case, with piles of tongue-in-ass compliments so you aren't as hurt by the truth because it contains people who are WILLING TO IMPROVE. And honestly, I have no clue why so many people consider that a bad thing. How sheltered do you have to be, how completely socially inept to you have to be... hell, how out of touch with what the actual field of art is like, to think people who are blunt with their critique and comments are "trolling" you and that mean advice is a bad thing? Honest critique is honestly the best kind of critique you will ever get. Too many people hate on "blunt" comments, but if someone cares enough to not bog down their opinion with 5 pounds of sugar, spice, and everything nice, take the time to at least listen to what they're saying. There's no need to close your eyes, cover your ears and stomp around screaming so you don't have to listen to something that isn't "nice", but chances are, you're going to shrug this post off as /just another troll post trying to bring me down/ and not look any farther into it than that, so what the fuck

I just needed to post this because you seem like you're competent enough to actually read through it without calling your mommy in to help figure out what some of the words mean.

... for one I DO want to improve. for another I don't know if I should listen to a guy that has Banned in his title. And last of all I AM trying to do something to improve this sprite. What I dislike is people that assume I'm a snot nosed little praise sponge. I'm not here for that I'm here to get a critique that I can actually DO SOMETHING WITH.
And I rarely get that here.
Look Right now I'm not in the mood for your BS.
Heck I don't even know how you posted if you're banned.

Take the fuckin' advice, it builds character.

Look I've been at Spriting for three years I know when I'm trying to 'receive praise' for something.
I'm looking for Critiques that are similar to what Maneko posted. A GOOD critique and not a 'this sprite sucks'
