The game is not gold but that does not make it shit.

I think people are just too critical of Sonic now because of all the crap we've been through and if those people don't get a holy grail of a game then they'll never forgive SEGA.

I don't think people should be like this. They'll never be happy if they don't just accept that things are different. Fans shouldn't have to take shit, but that doesn't mean they should poo poo everything that doesn't meet their standards.

I redirect you to my post

Quote:People are criticizing the ones that didn't like the game as retarded Sonic fans.

While the same people criticized the ones that liked the Sonic games that came out before Sonic 4 as retarded Sonic fans.

It's like calling someone a "retarded Sonic fan" automatically wins your arguments because they're retarded Sonic fans anyway so why bother arguing.

if it was a year ago you'd say "Sonic Fans: most pleasurable things in the universe"

"durr hurr durr it is so fun to make fun of sonic fans because they just take everything that SEGA throws at their faces oh and they are also unpleasable as fuck they never take anything that SEGA throws at their faces"

and i don't think you even read my post at all so

:I

Anyway, redirecting to my other post some pages back, I clearly said that

Quote:I can actually understand why people can like it, even with all of my complaints, it is a solid game, and you can easily not notice or overlook some of the things I said here if you're not too much of a Sonic enthusiast or if you're doing exactly what the designer wants you to do. But, for myself, Sonic 4 is an even bigger letdown than I thought it was going to be.

It is a solid game, it is very playable, it looks and plays much much better than abominations like Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic 2k6, and even better than Sonic Unleashed (if it wasn't for the really dumb Werehog segments anyway). If you're not like me and you play this game like the designer intended you to, using a lot of spin-dashes and jump-dashes instead of trying to play it as Sonic 1, you'll probably like it a lot. But as I said, they had all of the resources to make this game really really great and they just discarded all of them, and personally, as a fan, it bothers me way too much how it discards the main element of the classics: Momentum. It bothers me that a game that released 15 years later does not improve or add almost anything upon the originals, and instead, take elements out. And it also bothers me how SEGA keeps marketing this image like they're specially doing for their fans and they're listening to them when it's very clear they aren't.

Also, I legitimately really liked Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure, and I think Sonic Colors is probably going to be the absolute best experience of Sonic in the 3D realm. But none of those games actually behaved like the classics or tried to put the game design of the classics and improve upon it, but they did have their own game design that worked really well. So Sonic 4 came out and it was the perfect chance to do so. But they didn't. They changed the game design so that it would work more similar to the modern ones, probably because they don't know how to do the classic way, and didn't change or add anything new, and tried to still sell it like it's classic, by adding and taking out stuff from the gameplay to just look more classic, but that doesn't always work, resulting in just bad design because the designer didn't think of how would the player would play the game if the player doesn't exactly follow what he wants him to do.

are you people deranged how does a series of paragraphs elaborately explaining objective points of game design and etc. = "wow, they're just so traumatized.... they cant see that this game is good"
stop crying over criticism, especially very well thought-out criticism
e: for this new page, because apparently people keep missing it because they're too busy trying to deflect criticism by pretending everyone else is a cartoon caricature

This thread is invalid.

Fans = SEGA

Fans: People who make awesome shit only to prove a point. Don't even complete said shit.

SEGA: People who CAN make awesome shit, but don't then charge people for incomplete games calling it finished and ready for market.

I think most if not all parties are tripping up in terms of Sonic. Except Archie comics, they can't fail over there. Cool

I wasn't referring to /all/ Sonic fans, just the ones that nitpick things. Not referring to anyone in this thread, I actually don't know why I put that in this thread. An example of said people I'm talking about would be: GREEN EYES GREEN EYES IT'S NOT COMPLETELY 2D AUTOMATICALLY HORRIBLE ALL SONIC GAMES ARE BAD NOW THAT'S WHY I STILL BUY THEM

And I was just agreeing with your post on the other part.

Mama Robotnik Wrote:Hahaha.

So you're Sega, and you want to make a game called "Sonic the Hedgehog 4"; with all the expectations that such a weighty name infers. Do you:

(a) make the most epic 2D game imaginable, that uses the most beautifully drawn HD-sprites to create a new land of thematic beauty for Sonic to explore? Using a perfect physics engine as basis, painstakingly created using the movements in the original games as basis, Sonic jumps, spins, and uses momemtum-based movement to progress. The game jettisons all qualities of the failed games (excessive boosters, grinding, homing attacks, repugnant "friends"), and we have Sonic once again fighting off the machinations of the evil Doctor Robotnik.

With a soundtrack that expands the MIDI stylings of the original into more modern territory, a multiplayer mode inspired heavily by Sonic 2, and a wealth of other options, a genuine rich sequel to the classics is achieved. Coupled with that, the game is accompanied with a Sonic Level Creator (refined from the Flash version) which, with access to the bandiks, spirte-sheets, backgrounds and music of all Sonic 1-3K, CD, and the MS games, allows gamers to mix and match, create and share their own fully-functioning Sonic games online, in a custom-content archive (regularly updated with new sprites and midis from classic Sega games) that will truly allow 2D Sonic to live forever.

or

(b) port an iPhone game.

i dont think anyone actually cared about the green eyes thing, it was just that sega was being all GOING BACK TO THE ROOTS BRAH and people were being skeptical (and rightly so), thinking that them using the new design was a sign that sega was bullshitting
Thanked by:
i actually prefer the green eyes

the only bad thing imo about the new design is the fucking sidemouth.
how do they not see that it looks totally retarded?
