2D Platform Fighter w/Custom Sprites + Backgrounds
#1
For my high school senior project, I am programming a computer game starred by some of my friends. I decided to make a king-of-the-hill fighting game, hoping for a Smash-like feel. Below you have the controls and download link for the demo with 1 fully-completed character, Hunter. Make sure you try out all of the fancy features. This game was written in GML with Game Maker 7, and all the sprites, backgrounds and effects you see were sprited by me in JASC Paint Shop Pro 4.

Arrow Keys / WASD : Walking, Jumping, Crouching, Wall-Sliding, Dashing

Press Shift / Z : Spidey Grab
Crouch + Hold Shift / Z : Shield
Crouch + Tap Shift / Z : Counter
Crouch + Tap Left / Right : Dodge
Jump + Hold Shift / Z : Spidey Swing
Tap Control / Space Repeatedly : Punch Combo
Hold Control / Space : Kamehameha
Crouch + Tap Control / Space : Sliding Kick
Crouch + Hold Control / Space : Uppercut
Walk / Dash + Control / Space : Linebacker
Jump + Control / Space : Backflip Kick
Jump + Left / Right + Control / Space Big Grineathdrop Spike
Jump + Down + Control / Space : Dribble

By the way, his moves are based on their interests, hence Hunter here turns into a football player, dribbles a basketball, and goes Super Saiyan. Hopefully I can get 5 or 6 characters done, but for now enjoy 1 completely finished one.

Thanks Trigger, and hopefully some more people will download it. I should have another character done by this weekend. And the Senior Project class is really open, there are kids doing projects from orthopedics to quilt-making, so I chose to make this!

I've followed your unbelievably good advice and included some screenshots in my original post. Hopefully my post to view ratio will return to a healthy balance. Please, if you view this download the demo and tell me what you think of it. I make games because it is satisfying to know that someone enjoyed them, so you are doing me a great favor by sharing your thoughts.

It's his senior project.
I don't know what his subject is, but Colton is doing the same thing.

I even made a Game Maker game with mine, but that was simply as part of my product as my presentation was about videogames.

Wow! I thought games for senior projects was sort of a rare deal! It's weird how on this forum, every thread has at least 100 views to every post. Does anyone know of somewhere else you can go to get good criticism on a game?

well, we're more of a spriting forum than a game design forum, obviously.

Try the Game Maker Community or TIGSource
