Also, that's a reasonable start, but the lineart is kinda mssy, and the head doesn't feel well-rounded.

no prob, I had similar troubles when I started using uploading sites

you could make its back smoother, as well as his 'jaw'. His 'fin' also needs some touchups too

EDIT:

something about the plasme is bugging me. I just can't put my finger on it

This is pretty good. Much better then your previous sprites.
Also, I think I know what about the plasma is strange. The top area should be more pointier to match its shape on the orange, it looks kinda cut off.
The left plasma "arm" is bigger then the right. Make it slightly smaller. And, the slight bit over his left eye seems kinda squarish, round that out some?
That's all I can see wrong with it right now. Still, good job!
