What about stuff like Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone (and other DBZ movies)? That isn't really standalone (I'm pretty sure it doesn't newly introduce the characters), it has a place in the anime's timeline and is even referenced in later episodes. Still counts as a movie though.
I think in that case, since it's a self-contained arc (or in DBZ's case, "saga") it would count as a movie...
Of course this brings up the case of things like Mockingjay, which was split into two parts. Is each individual part a movie, or is it one huge movie with an intermission?
